Former UTEP wide receiver Tyrin Smith is transferring to Texas A&M, making the announcement Sunday via twitter. Smith, who will have two years of eligibility remaining, had 71 receptions for 1,039 yards and seven touchdowns this past season for the 5-7 M iners. The 5-foot-7, 170-pounder in 2021 had 33 receptions for 570 yards with four TDs. Smith, who played at Cibolo Steele High School, was at Cisco College before transferring to UTEP. - Bryan/College Station Eagle

After tearing up Conference USA as a sophomore in 2022, UTEP wide receiver Tyrin Smith entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on Monday. Smith made the announcement on his social media pages, thanking the university and the city of El Paso in doing so. The Cib olo, Texas, native has two years of NCAA eligibility remaining. Smith broke out in 2022 for UTEP, catching 71 passes for 1,039 yards and seven touchdowns as the Miners went 5-7, narrowly missing out on a second straight trip to a bowl game.This is the second year in a row that Smith has entered the Portal; he went in last offseason, before electing to return to UTEP. It's also the second season in a row that the Miners will lose their top two wide receivers (Rey Flores graduated in 2022). In 2021 , UTEP lost Jacob Cowing (transferred to Arizona) and Justin Garrett (graduation). - KTSM

2022 ALL-CONFERENCE USA HONORABLE MENTION: WR: Tyrin Smith, UTEP,...Smith became only the eighth Miner in program history to produce a 1,000-yard season, gaining 1,039 yards in his second season with UTEP. Smith is only one of three C-USA players to gain over 1,000 yards. Smith added 71 receptions, becoming only the fourth Miner to tally 70+ receptions during a single season. His 1,039 yards is ranked seventh best all-time in a single season at UTEP, while his 71 catches rate third best during a single campaign. Smith produced four 100-yard games, that led off with a 127-yard performance in the season opener, while he compiled a career-high 183 yards on eight receptions at New Mexico. Smith recorded a career-high 10 catches for 117 yards and a score ag ainst MT. Smith scored touchdowns against North Texas, NM State, at Charlotte (two), Middle Tennessee, FIU, and UTSA.
