Byrum Brown threw three touchdown passes and ran for a score as No. 19 South Florida racked up 522 yards in a 48-13 victory over Florida Atlantic on Saturday night. South Florida (6-1, 3-0 AAC) got touchdown receptions from Jeremiah Koger, Jonathan Echols and Wyatt Sullivan. The Bulls scored the final 27 points to turn a 21-13 lead into a blowout victory. "I think for us, as complete of a game as we've played in terms of the ups and the downs, but continuing to play," Bulls coach Alex Golesh said. "There was so much in terms of mistakes and non-execution on all three sides of the ball, but we kept answering the bell." Brown was 14 of 24 for 256 yards and ran for 111 yards and a touchdown. Nykahi Davenport rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown. Koger had four catches for 90 yards. "Byrum continues to be a force that's really hard to stop," Golesh said. "He's as special of a player as there is in the country." Florida Atlantic's Caden Vetkamp was 35 of 50 for 244 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception.   Byrum Brown threw three touchdown passes and ran for two more scores, Jhalyn Shuler returned a fumble 34 yards for South Florida's fourth TD in span of 4 1/2 minutes and the No. 24 Bulls beat North Texas 63-36 on Friday night, handing the Mean Green their first loss this season. The Bulls (5-1, 2-0 American) tied it at 21 with 2 seconds left before halftime when Brown threw a 2-yard TD pass to Jonathan Echols to capitalize on a muffed punt. They added three quick scores after halftime. North Texas (5-1, 1-1) hadn't gone this deep into a season without a loss since a 5-0 start in 1959, which was nine years before "Mean" Joe Greene was a unanimous All-American at the school.

South Florida went ahead to stay with some trickery right after halftime, on receiver Christian Neptune's 29-yard TD pass to Keshaun Singleton after first taking a handoff on a sweep. The Bulls' third interception in the game then set up Sam Franklin's 11-yard TD with 12:35 left in the third quarter, a minute before the big return by Shuler for a 42-21 lead. UNT redshirt freshman quarterback Drew Mestemaker, who never started a varsity game in high school, was 30-of-46 passing for 326 yards and two touchdowns, while also running for a score. He had thrown 11 TD passes without an interception in the first five games before the three picks by the Bulls. South Florida outgained UNT 580 total yards to 423. Brown completed 22 of 28 passes for 245 yards, and ran 21 times for 82 yards. - South Florida/AP College Football

Byrum Brown threw three touchdown passes and rushed for 98 yards - in the first half - and South Florida rolled to a 54-26 victory over Charlotte on Friday night in the Bulls' American Athletic Conference opener. South Florida (4-1, 1-0) took a 7-0 lead 59 seconds into the game on a 37-yard touchdown run by Cartevious Norton, who played for Charlotte (1-4, 0-2) last season. Brown connected with Jeremiah Koger for a 38-yard touchdown and Mudia Reuben for a 10-yard score. Jair Murphy blocked a punt in the end zone between the touchdown tosses and the Bulls led 23-0 after one quarter.

Nico Gramatica's 43-yard field goal and Brown's 18-yard scoring strike to Chas Nimrod led to a 33-7 advantage at halftime. Brown had a 1-yard touchdown toss to Evan Dangler before scoring on a 13-yard run to up the lead to 47-18 in the fourth quarter. Nykahi Davenport added a 7-yard TD run with 43 seconds left.   Ohio State, Penn State and LSU remained the top three teams in The Associated Press Top 25 college football poll Sunday, Oregon is back in the top five and South Florida is ranked for the first time in seven years. There was some movement inside the top 10, but the biggest changes came from Nos. 11 to 25. Ohio State, whose 70-0 win over Grambling was among a bevy of weekend blowouts, received 57 of the 65 first-place votes from the media panel. Penn State got five first-place votes and LSU two. No. 4 Oregon, which thrashed Oklahoma State, received the other first place-vote and flip-flopped with Georgia. The Bulldogs' uninspired win over FCS foe Austin Peay caused them to slip to No. 6 behind Miami.

Texas, Notre Dame, Illinois and Florida State round out the top 10, with the latter two teams in the top 10 for the first time this season. Oklahoma earned a five-rung promotion to No. 13, its highest ranking in two years, after its win over Michigan. The Wolverines dropped to No. 23. Tennessee jumped seven spots to No. 15, and No. 16 Texas A&M and No. 17 each moved up three. The biggest upward mover was No. 18 South Florida, which was eight spots out of the Top 25 last week. The Bulls pulled the upset of the day with their 18-16 win over then-No. 13 Florida. That followed their 34-7 home win over then-No. 25 Boise State. - AP College Football

WEEK 2 ASSOCIATED PRESS NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORABLE MENTION: South Florida's Byrum Brown was 23 of 36 for 263 yards and he ran for a team-best 66 yards in the Bulls' 18-16 win over then-No. 13 Florida. He led the Bulls on an eight-play, 87-yard drive that set up the game-winning field goal as time expired; Army QB Cale Hellums made his first start because of an injury to starter Dewayne Coleman and rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns on a program-record 41 carries in a 24-21 win at Kansas State; Texas' Arch Manning passed for 295 yards and accounted for five TDs in a 38-7 win over San Jose State; Iowa State's Kyle Konrardy kicked a 54-yard field goal with 1:52 to play to give Iowa State a 16-13 victory over Iowa. It was his second straight game-winning kick in the final two minutes against Iowa, both from 54-yards. - AP College football

Nico Gramatica hit a 20-yard field goal as time expired and South Florida stunned No. 13 Florida 18-16 on Saturday to give the Bulls consecutive wins against ranked opponents to start the season. Gramatica missed a 58-yarder with 2:52 remaining but got a chance to redeem himself after Florida defensive lineman Brandon Bett spit at a South Florida player on the Bulls' next possession. Bett was ejected with a little more than two minutes to play, and the Bulls (2-0) got 15 yards and an automatic first down to spark an 87-yard drive.

It was the latest setback for embattled Florida coach Billy Napier, whose team is 1-1 for the fourth consecutive year. The Gators looked as though they would rally after freshman Vernell Brown III returned a punt 40 yards to set up DJ Lagway's lone touchdown pass. But the Gators flopped down the stretch, an all-too-familiar feeling during Napier's tenure. Napier's play-calling was scrutinized as much as Lagway's rehabilitated throwing shoulder, and the Gators found themselves trailing 15-9 in the fourth quarter following a defensive breakdown and a safety caused by a poor snap. - South Florida/AP College Football
