  2021 OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR (COACHES): DJ Williams (QB), Murray State,...Williams started the season as Murray State's backup quarterback by was forced into duty in the fifth game of the season due to an injury to the starter. In that game against nationally-ranked UT Martin, Williams had 210 yards of total offense and a touchdown off the bench. The following week he earned his first career start at Southeast Missouri and helped the Racers overcome a 15-point second half deficit to win 32-31 and earn OVC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Williams accounted for 321 yards of total offense and three touchdowns in that win.

In the team's second meeting of the season with SEMO (Nov. 13), Williams was named National Freshman of the Week by Stats Perform after tallying 296 yards of total offense and two touchdowns. In that game he scored on a 58-yard rush and added a 73-yard completion (the ninth-longest in program history). Williams finished the season with 1,020 passing yards and three touchdowns through the air while rushing for 532 yards (6.4 yards/carry) and six scores on the ground. Since the award was first bestowed in 2004, Williams is the second Murray State player to be named OVC Freshman of the Year, joining quarterback Jeff Ehrhardt (2007). He is the 12th quarterback to win the honor in 18 years. - Ohio Valley Conference Football
