FIU has given coach Mike MacIntyre an extension through the 2027 season, the university announced Thursday. MacIntyre went 4-8 this season, his first with the Panthers. The school had lost 18 of its last 19 games before his arrival, and winning four games was enough to convince FIU that the program is back in the right direction. "His vision, character, work ethic and humility are second to none," FIU athletic director Scott Carr said. "It's truly amazing what he has done to assemble a first-class staff and build a very healthy team culture. While we strive to win every game, we're pleased with the increase in wins from previous years and how hard our young men competed the entire season." MacIntyre's salary was $750,000 this season, according to university records. "I am honored to have the opportunity to continue to lead such a remarkable group of student-athletes and staff here at FIU," MacIntyre said. - AP College Football

Grayson James threw three touchdown passes, Lexington Joseph had a 1-yard touchdown run in the second overtime and Florida International beat Louisiana Tech 42-34 on Friday night. Louisiana Tech's Landry Lyddy threw an incomplete pass on fourth-and-10 to end it. FIU (4-4, 2-2 Conference USA), which beat Charlotte 34-15 last week, has won consecutive games for the first time since 2019 and ended a four-game losing streak to Louisiana Tech (2-6, 1-3). James was 31-of-48 passing for 321 yards and connected with three separate receivers for scores. Joseph finished with 41 yards rushing and also had a 1-yard TD run in the first overtime. Chase Gabriel's 28-yard field goal pulled FIU even at 27 with 16 seconds remaining in regulation. Lyddy threw for 256 yards and was 28-of-40 passing for Louisiana Tech. Marquis Crosby had 115 yards rushing and a pair of touchdown runs. - FIU/AP College Football

Grayson James threw touchdown passes on three straight possessions in the first half to guide Florida International to a 21-7 victory over New Mexico State on Saturday night. James connected with Tyrese Chambers for a 4-yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead for Florida International (2-2) after one quarter. New Mexico State (1-5) knotted the score at 7 just 2:02 into the second quarter on Star Thomas' 2-yard touchdown run. James answered on the Panthers' next possession with a 25-yard touchdown throw to Jalen Bracey and followed with a 60-yard scoring strike to Lexington Joseph with 6 minutes remaining before halftime. Neither team scored after that. James completed 13 of 19 passes for 175 yards and ran for 43 yards on 18 carries for the Panthers. - Florida International/AP College Football

Grayson James came on to throw three fourth-quarter touchdowns then added another in overtime plus a 2-point conversion to give FIU a 38-37 win over Bryant on Thursday night. After Bryant scored on the first possession of overtime on Zevi Eckhaus' pass to Anthony Frederick, James connected with Tyrese Chambers on a 5-yard score. New FIU coach Mike MacIntyre decided to go for two and James found EJ Wilson Jr. for the win. Bryant took a 30-27 lead on Ishod Byarm's 1-yarder with 43 seconds left in regulation and it looked as if the Bulldogs would get their first win over an FBS opponent. But a targeting call on fourth down kept the Panthers alive and James covered 48 yards on three passes to set up Chase Gabriel's 29-yard field goal as time ran out. FIU won after losing its final 11 games last season.

Gunnar Holmberg, Duke's starter last year, threw for a touchdown before James took over in the third quarter. James finished 16-of-31 for 207 yards and Holmberg 14-of-20 for 103. Chambers and Kris Mitchell each had two TD catches. Eckhaus was 18-of-22 passing for 243 yards. Gage Moloney added 106 yards passing with a score. Byarm had two touchdowns. Anthony Frederick had 101 yards receiving with a score. It was Bryant's first game in Florida where fourth-year Bryant's Chris Merritt was head coach at Christopher Columbus High School for 18 years, just a few miles from FIU, before being hired by the Bulldogs. - AP College Football
