Goose Crowder threw three touchdown passes to lead Troy to a 28-18 victory over Southern Miss on Saturday night in a Sun Belt Conference regular-season finale. Crowder's 7-yard touchdown pass to RaRa Thomas capped an 11-play, 85 yard drive that chewed up about five minutes and stretched the Trojans' lead to 21-10 with 6:58 remaining in the fourth quarter. The pair also connected on a 75-yard touchdown with 3:16 to play.Crowder completed 24 of 34 passes for 285 yards. He also had a 16-yard touchdo wn pass to Peyton Higgins just before halftime. Thomas finished with five catches for 118 yards. Tae Meadows added 94 yards rushing on 21 carries that included a short-yardage TD run in the first quarter. Braylon Braxton was 20-of-35 passing for 209 yard s with a touchdown pass and interception for Southern Miss. Carl Chester had four receptions for 76 yards and a 10-yard touchdown catch. Tight end Kadinn Morris recovered Jeffery Pittman's fumbled ball in the end zone late in the third quarter that pulle d the Golden Eagles to 14-10. Goose Crowder was 27-of-43 passing for 361 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions on Saturday night to help Troy beat Georgia State 31-19. Troy (7-4, 5-2 Sun Belt Conference) plays at Southern Miss next Saturday and the winner will advance to th e conference championship game on Dec. 5. DJ Epps had eight receptions for 103 yards and two touchdowns and Ethan Conner added 85 yards receiving and two TDs on three catches for the Trojans. Conner caught a 26-yard scoring strike from Crowder that made it 10-3 late in the first quarter and added a 39-yard touchdown in the third quarter that gave Troy a 17-6 lead.Georgia State responded with a 12-play, 75-yard drive that took nearly six minutes off the clock and culminated when Branson Robinson r an it in from the 4 to trim its deficit to 17-12 after a failed 2-point try. Epps had touchdown receptions of 10 and 35 yards in the fourth quarter. Christian Veilleux was 19-of-38 passing for 307 yards with a touchdown and an interception for the Panthe rs. Goose Crowder threw two touchdowns and rushed for another in the fourth quarter as Troy pulled away late to beat Nicholls 38-20 on Saturday evening in a season opener for both teams. Troy poured on 272 rushing yards as a team, as Tae Meadows led the pack with 186 yards and a touchdown on 23 touches. Crowder tied the game with a 16-yard rushing score, then hit Tray Taylor for a 28-yard touchdown to give the Trojans their first lead in the fourth quarter.Meadows broke free for a 47-yard run on the next possession, and Crowder capped the surge with a 5-yard scoring strike to Ethan Conner. The Trojans scored 21 unanswered. Crowder went 14 of 24 for the Trojans, accounting for 144 yards and three touchdowns. He added 43 yards and a score on the groun d as well. Deuce Hogan went 21 of 27 with 184 yards, a touchdown and an interception as the Colonels put up only 249 yards of total offense. Heading into spring practices in a couple of months – Troy has officially added three early enrollee freshmen and 21 transfers. Those transfers include scholarship and walk-on additions from FBS, FCS, Division II and junior college (JUCO) schools. The three freshmen are defensive lineman Ty'Quarius Perry, linebacker Keyshawn Campbell and quarterback JD Sherrod. On Jan. 12, former West Virginia quarterback Will Crowder announced his intention to transfer to Troy University. Crowder is a Gardendale native that played high school football at Gardendale High School, where he earned All-Region and All-Birmingham hon ors as a senior. He also competed in the Alabama/Mississippi All-Star Game and was a finalist for Sports Illustrated High School All-American.As a senior, Crowder threw for 2,132 yards and 20 touchdowns along with 586 yards and three touchdowns ru shing. Crowder initially signed with West Virginia out of high school, over offers from other schools like Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Boise State, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Kentucky, Liberty, Memphis, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Vanderbilt, Vir ginia Tech, Wake Forest and Troy. - Troy Messenger
