WEEK 7 BIG SKY SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Rodney Hammond Jr., Sacramento State (KR/RB, Sr., Norfolk, VA.),...Rodney Hammond, Jr. helped lead Sacramento State to a 55-27 victory at Weber State, as the senior accounted for three total touchdowns, including a 99-yard kickoff return for a score. After Weber State cut Sac State's lead to two scores, Hammond fielded the kickoff at the 1-yard line and broke free through the middle of the field for the touchdown. The score was the longest kick return by a Sac State player since Tyrone Taylor also went 99 yards against Idaho State in 1996. Hammond's mark is tied for third in program history, trailing only a pair of 100-yard returns. The senior's other kickoff return in the game went for 42 yards. He also rushed for 106 yards and scored two touchdowns on the ground. Others Nominated for Big Sky Football Player of the Week, Special Teams: Ty Morrison (UM), Jacob Willig (UNC). - Big Sky Football

Pitt running back Rodney Hammond Jr. has been declared ineligible and will miss the 2024 season, the school announced Friday. No reason was provided, but Hammond remains a member of the team and can practice, the school said. Hammond, in his fourth year, led the Panthers in rushing last year with 564 yards and scored four touchdowns. Desmond Reid was listed as co-No. 1 on the depth chart at running back heading into Pitt’s opener Saturday at home against Kent State. Reid is a third-year transfer from Western Carolina, where he played for new Pitt offensive coordinator Kade Bell and ran for 897 yards and 13 touchdowns last season. - AP College Football

Rodney Hammond ran for a career-high 124 yards and a touchdown while filling in for injured Israel Abanikanda and Pittsburgh shut down No. 22 Syracuse 17-9 on Saturday to end a two-game losing streak. The Panthers (5-4, 2-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) relied heavily on Hammond and a defense that kept Orange freshman quarterback Carlos Del Rio-Wilson in check in his first career start. Pitt sacked Del Rio-Wilson six times and limited the Orange (6-3, 3-2) to 145 total yards in beating Syracuse for the 18th time in the past 21 meetings of the longtime rivals.

C'Bo Flemister added a short touchdown run for Pitt as the defending ACC champions righted themselves after three losses in four games essentially ended any shot of them earning a second straight trip to the conference title game. Though quarterback Kedon Slovis failed to throw a touchdown pass for a fourth straight game - the USC transfer completed 16 of 23 for 178 yards and an ill-advised heave into the end zone in the first quarter that ended as an interception - Hammond and Flemister made up for it while doing a pretty solid Abanikanda impersonation. Hammond began the season expecting to split carries with Abanikanda only to get hurt during the season opener against West Virginia. Abanikanda took firm hold of the starting job in Hammond's absence, becoming the ACC's leading rusher in the process. - Pittsburgh/AP College Football
