2022 ALL-SEC SECOND TEAM (COACHES): RB Raheim Sanders, Arkansas,...Raheim Sanders, better known as Rocket, carded second-team honors after an explosive sophomore campaign. As the Hogs' leading rusher, Sanders ran for 1,426 yards and 10 scores on 219 carries (6.5 avg). The Rockledge, Fla., also contributed 28 receptions for 271 yards and two touchdowns this season, averaging 9.7 yards per catch. Sanders currently ranks second in the SEC in rushing yards, yards per touch and yards per game (118.8). With his help, Arkansas has had a 100-yard rusher in 10 of its last 13 games dating back to the 2021 season with Sanders contributing seven of those 10 100-yard performances. He became only the second Razorback in the past 25 seasons (RB Darren McFadden in 2007) to total 200 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns against a ranked opponent after exploding for 232 yards and three scores against No. 14 Ole Miss (Nov. 19). - Arkansas Football

Arkansas' Rocket Sanders rushed for 232 yards and three touchdowns, including a 68-yarder on the opening drive of the second half, in a 42-27 rout of No. 20 Ole Miss on Saturday night. The Razorbacks had a 35-6 halftime lead, and the Rebels' 21 fourth-quarter points made the game appear closer than it was. Sanders averaged 9.7 yards on 24 carries, helping Arkansas (6-5, 3-4 Southeastern Conference) snap a two-game skid and become bowl-eligible. He gained 153 yards in the first half. Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson returned from his injury, going 17 of 22 passing for 168 yards and three scores. Matt Landers added two touchdown receptions for the Hogs.

Ole Miss (8-3, 4-3, No. 14 CFP) moved the ball and had chances early. But holding penalties nullified two touchdown passes from Jaxson Dart. The Rebels lost a fumble, were forced to settle for two field goals on promising drives and missed a field-goal try. The Rebels had two 200-yard rushers - Quinshon Judkins (214) and Zach Evans (207) - but still trailed by 36 points at one point. Arkansas linebacker Drew Sanders picked off a Dart pass, setting up Sanders' 8-yard scoring run just before halftime for the 35-6 cushion. - Arkansas/AP College Football

University of Arkansas tailback Raheim Sanders has never been a big talker, but he's starting to come out of his shell after powering for an SEC-best 870 rushing yards though seven games to rank eighth in the country. Sanders, who is averaging 124.3 rushing yards per game, is on pace to accumulate 1,491 rushing yards through 12 games, a total that would slot him at fourth on the school's single-season rushing chart behind two big seasons from Darren McFadden (1,830 in 2007; 1,647 in 2006) and Alex Collins' 1,577 yards in 2015.

Sanders and the Razorbacks face the SEC's worst run defense on Saturday at Auburn. The Tigers' 204.4 rushing yards per game, including 448 by Ole Miss and 292 by Georgia in their past two games. "Very serious kid. I mean very serious," Coach Sam Pittman said to describe Sanders on Wednesday. "But where he's come around a little bit more is his personality. He's talking more. Not overly confident and certainly not close to cocky, but he feels good about what he's doing, and he should, and I think he's come a long way there." Sanders has five 100-yard outings in seven games, and the sophomore, who signed with Arkansas as a wideout, is coming off a career-best 175-yard effort in a 52-35 win at BYU that included 2 touchdowns on 15 carries. Speaking after that game, Sanders said he didn't know how to communicate well with the team's offensive linemen when he came in as a freshman receiver. "I didn't even know their names as much, so I wasn't communicating with them well," Sanders said. "Back then, I wouldn't say I was scared, but I was nervous to say something to them." - Northwest Arkansas Times

Rocket Sanders and Bryce Stephens had long scoring plays in a 2:22 span of the fourth quarter to help No. 10 Arkansas beat Missouri State and former Razorbacks coach Bobby Petrino 38-27 on Saturday night. Sanders caught a shovel pass for a 73-yard touchdown scamper with 11:38 left and Stephens returned Missouri State's ensuing punt 82 yards to give Arkansas (3-0) its first lead of the game at 31-27. Petrino coached Arkansas from 2008 to 2011 before being fired in spring of 2012 after a motorcycle wreck and proceeding scandal.

He won 11 games and 10 games in his final two seasons with the Razorbacks. Arkansas hasn't reached the double-digit win mark since. "Their team wasn't better than us today because we beat them, but Coach was better than me today and I've got to get that fixed," Arkansas coach Sam Pittman said. Arkansas rallied after Missouri State (2-1), took a 17-0 lead, tying it at 17 in the third quarter. Back-to-back scores late in the third quarter gave the Bears a 10-point edge with 12:04 left before Sanders and Stephens scored. Sanders ran for a career-high 167 yards on 22 carries and scored two touchdowns. KJ Jefferson threw for a career-high 385 yards, with two touchdowns and an interception. Jefferson's 1-yard touchdown run with 1:39 left provided the final score. - Arkansas/AP College Football

Rocket Sanders ran for a career-high 156 yards and scored Arkansas' first two touchdowns, and KJ Jefferson ran for a score and threw for another to lift the No. 16 Razorbacks past South Carolina 44-30 on Saturday. Jefferson led Arkansas (2-0, 1-0 Southeastern Conference) on three scoring drives in the fourth quarter, never allowing South Carolina to rally. He finished 18 of 21 for 162 yards passing and ran for 67 yards. A 23-yard touchdown pass to Warren Thompson with 12:09 left provided the key score, giving Arkansas a 19-point edge. South Carolina had fumbled on its previous drive after Jefferson's 2-yard touchdown run. Arkansas scored on its first three possessions of the game, all of which went for 12 plays or more.

Sanders finished the first two and freshman Rashod Dubinion had his first career touchdown, giving Arkansas a 21-3 lead in the second quarter. Spencer Rattler was 23 of 38 with 361 yards passing for South Carolina (1-1, 0-1), though 173 of those came in the fourth quarter when the Gamecocks were chasing from way behind. Rattler's 62-yard touchdown pass to Antwane Wells Jr. in the third quarter pulled the Gamecocks within five. When he sought Wells in the end zone again in the fourth, he was intercepted by Dwight McGlothern. Arkansas, which was seventh in FBS averaging 228 yards a game on the ground last year, ran for 300 against South Carolina. The Gamecocks had an interception and lost two fumbles. - Arkansas/AP College Football

Arkansas running back Raheim Sanders has officially been listed as the Razorbacks' No.1 running back, Pig Trail Nation reported Wednesday. After a dominant spring, the team's coach Sam Pittman has declared Sanders as the top running back on the Arkansas roster. He was third on the team last year in rushing yards, but with Trelon Smith's departure from the team and Dominique Johnson still recovering from an undisclosed injury, Sanders was able to claim the RB1 spot. - Pig Trail Nation

Arkansas has nailed down its complement to running back Trelon Smith. Razorbacks coach Sam Pittman made it clear Saturday after the team's second scrimmage of the preseason that No. 2 at the position is No. 5 - freshman Raheim Sanders. The second-year coach spoke glowingly of the physically impressive back. It was likely easy to after watching Sanders make a leap in performance over the first scrimmage and find the end zone twice inside Reynolds Razorback Stadium.

"He ran well, he ran hard and had a good day," Pittman said. "He had a really good day. With Rocket, last week, I'm not for sure that he had - I don't know - but I can't remember if he had more than a 5- or 7-yard run in last week's scrimmage. "He improved so much from in practice, I believe, because (he thought), 'Hey, I'm in the SEC. I got hit by SEC players and I'm still OK.' I think he gained a lot of confidence last week." One of the standouts in Saturday's work, which included roughly 150 plays, Sanders had touchdown runs of 6 and 39 yards. He also had a 2-yard rushing score in the scrimmage last Saturday. - Northwest Arkansas Times
