Former Alabama safety Kaine Williams on Sunday committed to transfer to Nebraska, he announced on Instagram. Williams, a redshirt freshman, entered the NCAA transfer portal last month after one season with the Tide. His commitment comes one day after he posted recruitment photos from a visit to Nebraska, which followed a visit to Kansas. Williams was among 18 scholarship players from Alabama to enter the transfer portal since the beginning of last season, and the third who entered after the team's spring game April 16.

The other two, defensive lineman Stephon Wynn and offensive lineman Dayne Shor, have not yet announced new schools. Wynn also reportedly visited Nebraska this weekend. Williams was a four-star recruit in 2021 from Louisiana who ranked No. 176 nationally in 247 Sports' industry composite. He appeared in only one game as a freshman last season, in the SEC championship against Georgia, on special teams. - Birmingham News

Alabama second-year safety Kaine Williams entered the NCAA transfer portal on Monday, he announced on Twitter. Williams became the Tide's 17th scholarship player to enter the portal since the end of last season. According to NCAA rules, fall sports athletes have until May 1 to enter the portal and remain eligible to play immediately elsewhere this season. Williams was a four-star recruit in 2021 from Louisiana who ranked No. 176 nationally in 247 Sports' industry composite. He appeared in only one game as a freshman last season, in the SEC championship against Georgia, on special teams.

Alabama returned both of its starting safeties, Jordan Battle and DeMarcco Hellams, for their senior seasons this offseason. Kristian Story and DeVonta Smith worked as Alabama's second-team safeties in Alabama's spring game, making Williams' role this season less certain. Williams joins defensive lineman Stephon Wynn as Alabama players entering the portal since the school's spring game April 16. - Birmingham News
