Kaiden Bennett accounted for three touchdowns, James Jones rushed for 100 yards and Delaware State defeated Division II-opponent Bowie State 36-14 on Saturday. The Hornets scored from long distance on their first two possessions, with Bennett throwing to Phillipe Wesley for a 64-yard touchdown and wide receiver NyGhee Lolley running for a 58-yard touchdown. Delaware State led 14-0 after running six plays.

The Hornets led 21-7 after the first quarter and 30-7 at halftime. The lead reached 36-7 before Bowie State put together an 80-yard drive that ended with Micah Robinson's 21-yard touchdown run. Delaware State (2-1) made it two wins in a row for first-year coach DeSean Jackson. The Hornets were named HBCU FCS national team of the week after defeating Albany last week, snapping an 11-game losing streak. Robinson had 92 yards rushing for Bowie State (2-1) and Samuel Graham had 11 totals tackles, eight of them solo. - AP College Football

Kaiden Bennett scored on a 27-yard run with 34 seconds remaining to give Delaware State and former NFL player DeSean Jackson his first coaching victory, a 37-32 win over Albany on Saturday night in a weather-delayed game that took 7 1/2 hours to complete. Jackson spent 15 years as a receiver in the NFL before retiring in 2023 and took the Hornets job after serving as offensive coordinator at Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, California, for one season. The Hornets (1-1) trailed with 4:38 remaining after Jack Shields passed to Steve Mahar Jr. for Albany's go-ahead touchdown. The game was then delayed for a half-hour, and then with two minutes on the clock, for three more hours before Bennett scored the game-winner. Albany (0-2) interim head coach Jared Ambrose was denied his first collegiate win. - AP College Football

The Nevada quarterbacks room continues to see off-season changes. The Wolf Pack both gained and lost a quarterback on Wednesday, with a junior college phenom moving in and a former local moving out. Nevada added Jacob Barlage to the roster; he'll join the team after a single season at the JC level. Barlage, 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds, completed nearly 70 percent of his passes last season at Riverside (Calif.) College, throwing for 2,786 yards and 30 touchdowns (against just five interceptions). He will have three seasons of eligibility for the Pack and is immediately eligible this season.

Another quarterback, Kaiden Bennett, left the program and announced a transfer to Sacramento State. Bennett, a former Sparks resident, never played a down for the Wolf Pack. He was a Boise State transfer. Bennett, who will be enrolling in his third college in less than a year, still has all four years of his eligibility remaining. Sacramento State plays in the Big Sky at the FCS level, meaning Bennett will not have to sit out a transfer season. Bennett put up massive numbers at Folsom, finishing with nearly 9,000 yards passing in 44 career games. He completed just over 70 percent of his passes and wound up with 121 touchdowns to go against 18 interceptions. - Reno Gazette Journal
