Even though Sevion Morrison and Adrian Martinez didn't share many snaps while they played together at Nebraska last season, Martinez always thought the running back had potential. After all, Morrison rushed for more than 5,000 yards while playing at Edis on High in Tulsa, Oklahoma, was considered one of the top 250 high school players in the class of 2020 and often showed flashes of excellence that caught Martinez's eye. "I think he's pretty shifty," said Martinez, who spent four years as the Cornhuskers ' starting quarterback. "I didn't really get to see him in game very much, so I didn't get to see those live interactions, but everything that I was able to pick up led me to believe he would be a good player."Morrison, who is 6 feet and 212 pound s, had just 30 carries across six games last season, which was part of the reason he decided in December to transfer to Kansas. Martinez also chose to leave Nebraska and landed up at Kansas State, meaning their reunion will come during the Sunflower Show down in Manhattan on Nov. 26. "I think Sevion's a really good dude, a really genuine guy that everyone at Nebraska really enjoyed and liked," Martinez said last week at AT & T Stadium, home to Big 12 football media days. "I think he's got a lot of talent and I hope he does really great things there at Kansas." - Lawrence Journal World

Sevion Morrison was never overwhelmed during his first few weeks at Kansas. Morrison, a running back who will be a redshirt sophomore in the fall, decided to transfer from Nebraska in November. He chose Kansas a month later, and once he began taking clas ses in mid-January, he felt welcomed by his new teammates and community. "I'm really enjoying it," Morrison said. "I can say that like, ever since we got here, it was like we were already treated like family...We were kind of settled in from the first we ek. It's real good." A 6-foot, 212-pound running back who grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Morrison arrived in Lawrence with a bit more familiarity with the school than most players who decide to transfer to Kansas. He was recruited and offered a scholarship by former coach Les Miles, but he chose to play for the Cornhuskers in August 2019, prior to his high school senior season. The four-star recruit was among the top 15 running backs in his class and the top 250 high school players in the country, ac cording to Rivals.com. He ran for more than 5,000 yards while at Edison High, including 2,728 yards as a junior and 1,798 yards as a senior, and had more than 20 scholarship offers, with Wisconsin, Minnesota, Mississippi State and Washington among the sc hools that also recruited him. - Lawrence Journal World

A reserve running back at Nebraska a little more than a month ago, Sevion Morrison announced Sunday night he'll soon be calling Kansas home. A 6-foot, 210-pound back from Tulsa, Okla., Morrison was a freshman this past season, and finished with 30 carrie s for 116 yards and three touchdowns, while appearing in seven games for the Huskers. It was his second season with the program, but he didn't play in any games in 2020.Morrison decided to leave the program in November, with just a few weeks left in the season, and entered his name in the transfer portal. Not long ago, Morrison was a highly regarded high school prospect in the Class of 2020. Rivals rated him as a four-star talent at Edison High, and ranked him as the No. 2 overall senior in the s tate of Oklahoma that year. Before signing with Nebraska, Morrison picked up scholarship offers from numerous Power Five programs, including Wisconsin, Missouri, Iowa State, Kansas State and Baylor. - Lawrence Journal World
