 Ben Gulbranson, Stanford, Player News

  10/19/25 - QB Ben GulbransonrSr/2026, Stanford, 6-3, 215 (DS#64 QB) + More +

Stanford tackled Gavin Sawchuk just short of the goal line on an untimed down and the Cardinal barely hung on to hand Florida State its ninth straight Atlantic Coast Conference loss with a 20-13 victory on Saturday night. "It comes down to the last play," interim cosch Frank Reich said. "Just credit to our defense ... just to keep him just short of the goal line. I know it was close, but just that last-ditch effort to get him on the ground. Big play." The Seminoles (3-4, 0-4) nearly pulled off an improbable comeback when backup quarterback Kevin Sperry completed a 49-yard desperation heave to Micahi Danzy on third and 22 to get the ball to the 9 with 2 seconds left. Stanford's Che Ojarikre was then called for pass interference in the end zone, giving the Seminoles an untimed down from the 2. Sperry threw a shovel pass to Galvan who was fighting for the end zone but was stopped just short by Matt Rose and Jahsiah Galvan. The play went to replay review and after a few tense moments Stanford (3-4, 2-2) was able to celebrate its third straight home win. "At the end of the day we played with energy and passion and made plays when we had to make plays," Reich said. The Cardinal defense came up big late, stopping Tommy Castellanos just short on fourth-and-2 keeper from the 14 with a little more than 5 minutes to play and on another drive with with 1:26 to play.

Castellanos was knocked out on the that drive on a targeting foul against Mitch Leigber. Sperry came in and almost led the Seminoles to the their first conference win since beating California on Sept. 21, 2024. "I believe in the guys that we have. I do," coach Mike Norvell said. "I think that they've shown fight throughout. We didn't fight very smart tonight. But they did fight to the end. ... We were there on the last play and had a chance and they said we were short." Stanford broke out to an early lead with help from a key mistake by the Seminoles. Edwin Joseph got called for offsides for Florida State, turning a missed 30-yard FG for Stanford into a 7-yard TD pass from Ben Gulbranson to CJ Williams that made it 10-3. - Stanford/AP College Football

  11/13/22 - QB Ben GulbransonrSr/2026, Stanford, 6-3, 215 (DS#64 QB) + More +

Oregon State's Ben Gulbranson threw for two touchdowns and ran for a score, and the Beavers' defense turned in another strong performance in a 38-10 victory Saturday night over California. Oregon State (7-3, 4-3 Pac-12) got a 55-yard punt return for a touchdown from Anthony Gould, and did enough offensively to control the game with 362 total yards. Damien Martinez had his fourth consecutive 100-yard rushing game with 105 yards on 23 carries. Gulbranson completed 15 of 23 passes for 137 yards, and is 4-1 since replacing Chance Nolan as the Beavers' starting quarterback. Oregon State is guaranteed of having a winning season for the second consecutive year. A week after scoring 35 points in a loss at USC, the Bears (3-7, 1-6 conference) were limited to 160 total yards and didn't score an offensive touchdown. It was one of Oregon State's most impressive defensive games of the season. - Oregon State/AP College Football

  10/16/22 - QB Ben GulbransonrSr/2026, Stanford, 6-3, 215 (DS#64 QB) + More +

With Ben Gulbranson making his second career start at quarterback for Oregon State on Saturday night, the Beavers relied heavily on their running game and defense in a 24-10 victory over Washington State. Good strategy. Oregon State (5-2, 2-2 Pac-12 Conference) rushed for 203 yards and Jack Colletto ran for two short touchdowns in handing Washington State (4-3, 1-3) its third loss in four games. The Cougars relied almost exclusively on the arm of quarterback Cameron Ward, who threw 54 passes in the game. A 50-yard run off left tackle by Damien Martinez to the 4-yard line late in the third quarter set up Colletto's 2-yard touchdown run on the first play of the fourth quarter, giving the Beavers a 24-10 lead.

Trailing by 14 points with six minutes remaining, Ward was forced out of the pocket on fourth-and-8 from the Cougars' 37-yard line and his desperation heave fell incomplete. Oregon State missed a 31-yard field goal with about three minutes left that would have made it a three-score game, but the Beavers defense sealed the win. The teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter. Midway through the third quarter Gulbranson rolled to his left and threw into the end zone to wide receiver Anthony Gould, who leaped high in the air and came down with a 17-yard touchdown catch, increasing the Beavers' lead to 17-3. Back came the Cougars. Ward completed five of six passes on an 80-yard touchdown drive, culminated by a 9-yard touchdown toss to running back Jaylen Jenkins that cut the Beavers' lead to 17-10 at 4:15 of the third quarter. The Cougars didn't score again. - Oregon State/AP College Football

  10/09/22 - QB Ben GulbransonrSr/2026, Stanford, 6-3, 215 (DS#64 QB) + More +

Ben Gulbranson threw a 56-yard touchdown pass to Tre'Shaun Harrison with 13 seconds remaining and Oregon State overcame a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat Stanford 28-27 on Saturday night. The Cardinal (1-4, 0-4 Pac-12) appeared to be in control of the game when they took a 24-10 lead into the fourth quarter with the Oregon State (4-2, 1-2) using a backup quarterback. Instead, they collapsed down the stretch and lost their 11th straight game against an FBS opponent. Gulbranson threw a 21-yard TD pass on fourth down to Silas Bolden on the second play of the fourth quarter to start the comeback.

Damien Martinez added a 43-yard touchdown run to make it 24-22 but the Beavers missed both 2-point tries to keep Stanford in the lead. The Cardinal nearly out the clock before settling for a 46-yard field goal with 58 seconds left. But Gulbranson needed only three plays to go 76 yards for the win. After two short completions, he took a shot down the sideline for Harrison, who leaped over Ethan Bonner for the catch. Patrick Fields appeared in position to make the tackle but Harrison got by him for the score. Gulbranson finished 20 for 28 for 250 yards and two TDs in his first collegiate start in place of the injured Chance Nolan. Tanner McKee threw two long touchdown passes to Brycen Tremayne but it wasn't enough for the Cardinal, who haven't beaten an FBS team since topping Oregon on Oct. 2, 2021. Stanford set a school record with its 10th straight conference loss. - Oregon State/AP College Football
