D.J. Graham didn't make it a secret. When the four-star recruit committed to Oklahoma in February 2019, he did so with the intention of being a wide receiver. It's a position he thrived in at Central High School in Fort Worth, Texas, piling up offers fro m Georgia, LSU and other notable programs as a result. But defensive coordinator Alex Grinch and cornerbacks coach Roy Manning saw the potential for Graham to thrive as a cornerback, even though he wasn't fully on board at first. "I had wide receiver asp irations," Graham said. "I wanted to come to OU, play under Lincoln Riley and play wide receiver. (Switching) was tough, a little bit. You could tell that I really still wanted to play receiver." Graham trusted his coaches, though, and it paid off on the field last season. The most rewarding moment came on Dec. 5, 2020, when the then-freshman cornerback made the first interception of his career in a 27-14 win over Baylor. "When I got that (interception), that really boosted my confidence like out the roof," Graham said. "I walked into the locker room thinking like I was just on top of the world for a little bit... I can say now that I'm completely bought in." Graham finished last season with 21 total tackles across eight game appearances, and he' s expected to have a larger role with the team this time around. With so much experience on the other side of the ball, the now-sophomore cornerback is already causing problems for OU's wide receivers during fall camp. "D.J. is a matchup nightmare for so me of these receivers," junior wide receiver Theo Wease said. "He used to play receiver, so he definitely knows some of our tricks... I'm definitely one of his biggest fans." - Daily Oklahoman
