2022 MISSOURI VALLEY FOOTBALL FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR: QB Cade Chambers, Indiana State, 6-4, 215, R-Fr., Maryville, Tenn. (Maryville High),...Chambers was the only Valley freshman to be named to the Jerry Rice Watch List (and subsequently was one of the 30 finalists nationwide to make the list. He finished with 938 passing yards and an 8:3 touchdown-to-interception ratio. Chambers had a strong starting debut with 162 passing yards and three total touchdowns against North Dakota State, and he produced five total touchdowns and 311 passing yards against Youngstown State while earning league Freshman of the Week honors. 2022 JERRY RICE AWARD FINALIST: Cade Chambers, Indiana State, R-Fr., 6-4, 215 (MVFC),...Chambers is one of 25 freshmen named to the watch list for the award presented to the national freshman of the year in college football's Division I subdivision. The Maryville, Tenn. native is also the lone freshman in the Missouri Valley Football Conference to be named to the list and is one of just five quarterbacks recognized across the nation. Chambers finished the 2022 season with 938 passing yards and an 8:3 to uchdown-to-interception ratio on the year. Highlighting his season included a 311-yard passing effort with five total touchdowns against Youngstown State. He earned October 16 MVFC Newcomer of the Week accolades from the contest in becoming the first ISU quarterback to top 300 passing yards since 2018.He opened up his starting debut with a statement game against North Dakota State finishing with 162 passing yards and three total touchdowns against the Bison. He added three more touchdowns and 201 passing yards against Illinois State. The Rice Award, now in its 12th season, is named after legendary Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice. OCT 17 MISSOURI VALLEY NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK: QB Cade Chambers, Indiana State, 6-4, 215, R-Fr., Maryville, Tenn. (Maryville),...Chambers recorded five total TDs in the Sycamores' shootout loss at Youngstown State. The redshirt freshman went 15-of-29 throu gh the air for a career-high 311 yards with a trio of touchdown passes, while adding two more on the ground in the 48-42 loss. Chambers connected on a 53-yard pass to Dakota Caton in the first quarter to tie the game up at 14-14. His two-yard TD run at t he start of the second quarter added to the Sycamore lead, while his 12-yard toss just before the halftime break cut the deficit down to 28-21. With the Sycamores trailing 45-28 late in the third quarter, Chambers connected on an 18-yard touchdown pass t o Justin Dinka to cut the lead down to 45-35. Following a successful onside kick, Chambers called his own number for an 11-yard option keeper to cut the deficit down to 45-42. His 300-yard game marked ISU's first 300-yard passing game since the 2018 seas on as the Sycamores rolled to a season-best 498 total offensive yards. - Missouri Valley Football

OCT 9 MISSOURI VALLEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE: QB Cade Chambers, Indiana State - Cade Chambers took advantage of his first collegiate start in nearly guiding Indiana State to the upset over No. 1/1 North Dakota State. The Maryville, Tenn. native went 12-for-26 through the air for 162 yards and two touchdown passes, while adding a third touchdown on the ground in the Sycamores' 31-26 loss. Chambers completed four consecutive passes in the Sycamores' first touchdown drive of the game, including a 14-ya rd score to Dante Hendrix over the middle. He added completions of 36 and 34 yards on the day while targeting four different receivers in the loss. - Missouri Valley Football
