Carson Beck already has found his way into the Miami record book. Beck completed his first 15 passes to break a Miami record, finishing 22 of 24 for 264 yards with two touchdowns as the fifth-ranked Hurricanes eased past Bethune-Cookman 45-3 on Saturday night. Beck's 15 consecutive completions broke a Miami single-game mark that stood for nearly four decades; Vinny Testaverde completed 14 in a row against Oklahoma in 1986. "It's super cool, obviously, to perform at a high level and do things like that," Beck said. CJ Daniels caught both of Beck's touchdown passes, from 40 and 5 yards out.Beck has gone 185 consecutive passes without an interception, dating to last season when he was with Georgia. "He keeps getting better and better," Miami coach Mario Cristobal said. "I mean, every practice, every week, there's this continued growth and development, and really you see an appetite for more. He just wants to get better. He wants Miami to get to better. He wants to Miami to win. And he's all about team." Mark Fletcher Jr. had two touchdown runs for the Hurricanes (2-0), who reached the end zone on their first five drives and began substituting liberally in the third quarter. Marty Brown and Girard Pringle also had scoring runs for Miami. Timmy McC lain completed 13 of 15 passes for 86 yards for Bethune-Cookman (0-2). Juan Dominguez had a 32-yard field goal for the Wildcats. - Miami/AP College Football

Carter Davis made a 47-yard field goal with 1:04 left for the go-ahead score, Carson Beck threw for 205 yards and two touchdowns in his Miami debut, and the 10th-ranked Hurricanes beat No. 6 Notre Dame 27-24 in the opener for both teams on Sunday night. CJ Daniels made a spectacular one-handed touchdown grab and Rueben Bain had an interception on a thrice-deflected pass in the fourth quarter for the Hurricanes, who outgained Notre Dame 324 yards to 314. Malachi Toney had a touchdown catch and Marty Brow n added a TD run for Miami. CJ Carr, in his first start for Notre Dame, finished 19 of 30 for 221 yards with two touchdown passes and an interception - plus a rushing score with 3:21 left that tied the game, capping a rally from 14 points down. Micah Gil bert and Jordan Faison had the scoring grabs for the Irish. Miami went 46 yards on 10 plays on the ensuing drive, with Davis - a transfer from FAU - delivering for the lead. Notre Dame got the ball at its own 25, out of timeouts, and went nowhere before time expired.Miami won the coin toss and deferred, which proved relevant - since the Hurricanes essentially ran out the clock on the first half with a 75-yard TD drive, then started the second half with another 75-yard TD march. Carr's first colle giate touchdown pass came on a play where he dropped back, zigging and zagging to avoid pressure, then ran back toward the line before finding Gilbert for what became a rather easy score that tied the game at 7-7. Nearly an hour passed in real time befor e Carr threw another ball, as Miami essentially had back-to-back possessions separated only by an Irish kneel-down to end the half. Daniels' 20-yard grab came with 12 seconds left before halftime to give Miami a 14-7 lead, and the Hurricanes chewed up ha lf of the third-quarter clock on another 75-yard drive capped by Brown's 5-yard run. - Miami/AP College Football

Mike Bobo reclaimed the offensive coordinator job at Georgia on Tuesday, with Todd Monken leaving the two-time defending national champions for the NFL. Bobo, a former Bulldogs quarterback and longtime assistant coach at his alma mater, also served as of fensive coordinator under former coach Mark Richt. The 48-year-old Bobo has some big shoes to fill. Monken accepted the offensive coordinator job with the Baltimore Ravens after serving on a staff that guided Georgia to back-to-back national titles. The Bulldogs averaged 38.6 points per game in 2021 and 41.1 this past season while finishing 15-0, capped by a record-breaking 65-7 blowout of TCU in the national championship game.Monken's three-season stint with the Bulldogs will be remembered for t he stunning rise of quarterback Stetson Bennett from walk-on to Heisman Trophy finalist. "We are extremely thankful and appreciative of the three years Todd and his wife, Terri, have spent with our UGA family," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said in a stateme nt. "We wish them the best as he moves on to the Ravens organization." Bobo, who had head coaching stints at Colorado State and South Carolina after leaving Georgia following the 2014 season, returned to his alma mater a year ago as a quality control ana lyst for the offense. "Mike was an excellent addition to our staff last year as an analyst, and we are looking forward to his expanded leadership on the offensive side of the ball," Smart said. Bobo takes over an offense with some major holes to fill, mo st notably at quarterback with Bennett's departure. Carson Beck, who got limited playing time the last two years as a backup, is expected to take over the job. But he'll have to beat out Brock Vandagriff, one of the top-rated QBs in the 2021 recruiting c lass, and Gunner Stockton, another touted prospect who has yet to play at the college level. - AP College Football

JT Daniels locked down UGA football's starting quarterback job with the way he sparked the offense in his four games to end last season. So the question at the position now isn't about the No. 1 spot. It's about which guy is in position to be the backup for the fifth-ranked Bulldogs heading into the Sept. 4 opener against No. 2 Clemson in Charlotte. Redshirt freshman Carson Beck has the inside track for the job based on his showing this spring including the G-Day spring game.Second-year offensive coordinator Todd Monken left some wiggle room when asked Thursday about the No. 2 QB. "Well, we're working through that right now," he said. "We left spring with Carson as our No. 2 quarterback, but we're working through that now." Beck, the 6-foot-4, 2 15-pounder from Jacksonville, completed 22 of 31 passes for 236 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in the spring game when he worked as the No. 2 quarterback. "I'm excited about Carson Beck's future," coach Kirby Smart said at SEC Media Days i n July. "He's a very bright young man. He's done the right things off the field in terms of classroom and doing what he's supposed to do. He's improved in that area. He's talented. He's really got good composure. He's a guy that can stand in the pocket w ith confidence and make throws." - Athens Banner-Herald
