  11/22/25 - QB Joey AguilarrSr/2026, Tennessee, 6-3, 225 (DS#7 QB) + More +

On a Saturday filled with Southeastern Conference teams playing lower-division opponents, Tennessee appeared to be facing one, too. DeSean Bishop ran for 116 yards and two touchdowns, including one that ended with a flip into the end zone, and the 20th-ranked Volunteers overwhelmed rival Florida 31-11 to win in the Swamp for the first time since 2003. The Volunteers (8-3, 4-3 SEC) had dropped 10 in a row at Florida Field, one of the longest skids in series history. Although there were plenty of lopsided meetings over the years, this one could go down as the most stunning - even with the Gators (3-8, 2-6) spiraling and waiting to find out the future of Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin. With retired coach Urban Meyer watching from the Florida sideline, the Vols scored touchdowns on their first four drives and led 31-0 at halftime.

It was easily their most dominant 30 minutes of football against Florida since 1990. They outgained the Gators 323-110 in the opening half and had 19 first downs. The Gators put up little fight on defense and couldn't seem to get out of their own way on offense. A holding penalty negated a 42-yard completion, DJ Lagway was stuffed for no gain on a fourth-down run and Trey Smack missed a 38-yard field goal. The Gators tried to regroup at halftime. But Jadan Baugh inadvertently signaled for a fair catch on the second-half kickoff and let the ball bounce, resulting in Florida starting at the 2-yard line. Roughly half the home crowd left early, and no one could blame them. It was Florida's worst home showing since trailing Missouri 42-0 in 2014. Tennessee fans took over Florida Field in the waning moments and long after the clock wound down, and quarterback Joey Aguilar riled them up with a mock Gator chomp. - Tennessee/AP College Football

  11/15/25 - QB Joey AguilarrSr/2026, Tennessee, 6-3, 225 (DS#7 QB) + More +

Joey Aguilar threw for 204 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score to lead No. 21 Tennessee to a 42-9 victory over New Mexico State on Saturday. Aguilar completed a 7-yard pass early in the fourth quarter to extend his streak of games passing for more than 200 yards to 10. DeSean Bishop rushed for 80 yards and a TD for Tennessee (7-3) before leaving with a leg injury.

Logan Fife threw for 166 yards for the Aggies (3-7), who lost their fifth in a row. Isaiah Rudison scored their only TD on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter. Tennessee cornerback William Wright scored on a 35-yard interception return late in the third quarter for the Volunteers' sixth defensive touchdown of the season. In a lackluster first half, Aguilar was intercepted twice, giving him 10 for the season - the most of any Tennessee quarterback under coach Josh Heupel. Aguilar threw for 126 yards and a 15-yard score to Braylon Staley in the first half. He also ran 27 yards for a TD for a 21-3 halftime lead. - AP College Football

  10/25/25 - QB Joey AguilarrSr/2026, Tennessee, 6-3, 225 (DS#7 QB) + More +

Joey Aguilar threw for 396 yards and three touchdowns, DeSean Bishop ran for a pair of touchdowns, and No. 17 Tennessee took advantage of two first quarter turnovers to beat Kentucky 56-34 on Saturday night. Aguilar completed touchdown passes of 35, 13, and 62 yards to pace the Volunteers (6-2, 3-2 Southeastern Conference). Chris Brazzell II had 138 yards receiving and Mike Matthews added 107 yards receiving and a touchdown each.

Kentucky's Cutter Boley tried to match Aguilar, throwing for 330 yards and a school record for a freshman quarterback five touchdowns, but also threw a pick-six that put the Wildcats (2-5, 0-5) in a 14-0 hole. He had scoring passes of 71, 56, 3, 28 and 7 yards. D.J. Miller had 120 yards receiving and two touchdowns. - Tennessee/AP College Football

  10/14/25 - QB Joey AguilarrSr/2026, Tennessee, 6-3, 225 (DS#7 QB) + More +

Joey Aguilar stayed on the ground after a long run and the Tennessee fans held their breath until he sat up. Then they started chanting "Joey! Joey!" The quarterback who came through the transfer portal from Appalachian State via a short detour to UCLA has been everything they could have wanted. Aguilar quickly picked up the offense, which is humming at coach Josh Heupel's up-tempo pace as the No. 11 Vols go into Saturday's showdown at sixth-ranked Alabama. Heupel, who won a national title and was runner-up for the Heisman Trophy playing quarterback for Oklahoma in 2000, said Wednesday that Aguilar came in humble and ready to compete and worked to earn the trust of his new teammates after arriving in mid-May. Aguilar's experience helped. "He's handled it at a really high level," Heupel said. "Certainly, a lot more comfortable than when we first started." Heupel likes Aguilar's work ethic, aggressiveness and how the quarterback remains even-keeled from series to series.

"What I love about him, whether it's a good play, bad play, good series, bad series - same demeanor coming off on the sideline," Heupel said. Aguilar threw for 221 yards and a touchdown and ran for 59 yards in last week's 34-31 win over Arkansas. But it was the way he ran that had Heupel and more than 100,000 fans on the edge of their seats. On one run, Aguilar crashed into the communication system on the Razorbacks' sideline, cutting off headset communications for the rest of the game. Late in the game, Aguilar finished a 28-yard sprint up the middle of the field and came down with the football stuck in his midsection. "That ball was deep in my stomach," said Aguilar, who was able to smile recalling the moment an hour later. "That took the air out of me, for sure." Heupel appreciated the run to help seal the win: "I want him to get down once the play is over." Aguilar is off to a strong start. He has completed 64.8% of his passes (118 of 182) for 1,680 yards and 14 touchdowns. He has been intercepted five times, an area of concern coming into the season after he was picked off 14 times last season. He also has run for 117 yards and two more scores. He ranks 12th in the country averaging 280 yards passing per game, just ahead of Alabama's Ty Simpson (279.67). Tennessee also leads the nation in scoring with 48.2 points a game. - AP College Football

Joey Aguilar forced overtime with a 6-yard touchdown run with 1:55 left and DeSean Bishop scored on a 25-yard run on the first play of the extra session in No. 15 Tennessee's 41-34 victory over Mississippi State on Saturday. The Volunteers (4-1, 1-1 Southeastern Conference) trailed 34-27 after Zakari Tillman's interception and Seydou Traore's 2-yard scoring run. Tennessee tied on a 13-play, 75-yard drive. After Bishop scored in OT, the Vols stopped the Bulldogs (4-1, 0-1) on downs inside the 5.

Held down for the better part of three quarters, the Vols finished with 466 yards of total offense. Aguilar was 24 of 40 for 335 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Mike Matthews had six catches for 118 yards for Tennessee, and Chris Brazzell II added six receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown. Bishop carried 11 times for 72 yards. Tennessee sacked Blake Shapen five times and had 11 tackles for loss while turning in two defensive touchdowns on an interception and fumble return. For the Bulldogs, it was a solid offensive output as Shapen was 18 of 29 for 180 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Fluff Bothwell's ran for 134 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries. - Tennessee/AP College Football

Aguilar hit Christian Horn for an 83-yard score on the Mountaineers second snap of the season and went on to finish 22 of 37 for 326 yards.
