 Cole Becker, Utah, Player News

  01/08/23 - K Cole BeckerSr/2025, Utah, 6-3, 235 (DS#17 K) + More +

Utah didn't have to look too far to reel in a kicker from the transfer portal. Former Colorado kicker Cole Becker announced Friday he has committed to the Utes, three days after entering the NCAA transfer portal. Becker, who was the Buffaloes' kicker the past two seasons, will have two years of eligibility remaining.

What did Cole Becker do at Colorado? The 6-foot-3 kicker out of Roseville, California, made 11 of 13 field goals during the 2022 season, with a long of 49 yards, while connecting on 20 of 21 extra points. He made 25 of 33 field goals at Colorado, with a long of 56, and 45 of 46 extra points over the past two years. Becker had touchbacks on 67% of his 94 kickoffs over the past two seasons, though that improved to 73.9% during the 2022 season. He was also flagged for kickoffs out of bounds just twice. Becker entered the transfer portal not long after Jackson State kicker Alejandro Mata followed new Colorado coach Deion Sanders to Boulder. - Deseret News

Cole Becker was more impressed with his counterpart's big field goal than he was with his own game-winner in double overtime. Oregon State kicker Everett Hayes missed a 38-yard field goal in the second overtime after nailing a school record 60-yarder at the end of regulation, and Becker's 43-yarder gave Colorado a 37-34 win over the Beavers on Saturday night. "That's the moment all young kickers dream about," said Becker, a freshman, after navigating his way through the homecoming crowd that rushed the field when his last field goal sailed high through the uprights. But what about Hayes' 60-yarder, which is the longest in the FBS this season, the longest in Oregon State history and tied for the longest ever at Folsom Field. "That was incredible," Becker said. "I think, if I'm right, he hadn't hit 50-plus in his career. When he lined up for 60, I was like no shot. I'm standing on the bench, it was good from 65, and I was like, ‘That was a kick!'" Colorado (3-6, 2-4 Pac-12) won for the first time in four multi-overtime games in the program's history and the Buffaloes denied bowl eligibility for Oregon State (5-4, 3-3), which remains in search of its first six-win season since 2013.

The teams exchanged touchdowns in the first overtime with Brendon Lewis scoring on a 9-yard quarterback keeper for Colorado and running back B.J. Baylor snaring a high direct snap with his left hand and trotting into the end zone. Baylor, the conference's leading rusher, gained 98 yards on 22 carries but the Buffaloes were pleased because they were without their top tackler in injured linebacker Nate Landham and several others stepped up. Colorado actually outgained the Beavers on the ground 222 yards to 220 thanks to Jarek Broussard's 151 yards on 24 carries, including a 49-yarder that set up a go-ahead touchdown late in the fourth quarter. - Colorado/AP College Football
