Keiondre Jones, Florida State, Player News

Keiondre Jones won't be returning to Auburn next season. The former Tigers offensive lineman, who entered the transfer portal Dec. 1, committed to Florida State on Tuesday. Jones previously left the door open for a return to Auburn, saying upon his decision to enter the portal that he still considered the Tigers as one of his top options following the hiring of coach Hugh Freeze. Instead of returning to Auburn, the LaGrange, Ga., native will head a few hours south to Tallahassee, Fla., and join Mike Norvell's FSU program. Jones has two years of eligibility remaining. Jones, who was the first Auburn player to enter the portal after Freeze's hiring, is a former four-star prospect who appeared in in 36 games during his Auburn career. - Birmingham News

Auburn offensive lineman Keiondre Jones plans to enter the transfer portal but isn't ruling out a return to the Plains. Jones announced Thursday on his social media accounts that he intends to test the transfer waters after the Tigers' coaching change, adding that Auburn will remain an option for him as he determines where he wants to spend his final two seasons of eligibility. Jones has appeared in 36 games during his Auburn career, making 22 starts along the offensive line. That included two starts this season, against Penn State in Week 3 and against Alabama in the season finale last weekend. A former four-star recruit out of LaGrange, Ga., Jones' decision comes a day after new Auburn coach Hugh Freeze let go of several Auburn assistants, including offensive line coach Will Friend. - Birmingham News

Keiondre Jones is impactful for the Tigers in pass protection and run blocking. Jones was the only Tiger to start every game last season on the offensive line. Auburn had several injuries on the Plains during a rough 2021 season, but Jones remained consistent. Jones' ability to help the quarterback a clean pocket to throw from is imperative to Auburn's hope for a 2022 redemption season. Jones is a leader of an offensive line that has lots of experience playing together. Friend hopes the group makes significant strides.

"We had a goal of communication and being tied together. One of the things I think when you look at good offensive lines, the first thing that jumps out is they're tied together," Friend said. They may be wrong but if they're all wrong together, the normal person doesn't realize they're wrong. Getting tied together and just the speed of how we play, the get-off. Being able to run, we've put a huge emphasis on that. We've improved there." If Auburn can improve on the offensive line with Jones at right guard there is a reason for optimism this fall for a better season. - Birmingham News
