Two Ragin' Cajuns have entered the NCAA transfer portal since the season started - and UL coach Billy Napier is OK with that. One, reserve quarterback Clifton McDowell, remains on the No. 17 Cajuns' roster. The other, reserve receiver Brian Smith Jr., do es not. McDowell entered the portal, according to 247Sports.com, on Sept. 14, two days after UL's season-opening upset win at Iowa State. He did so after emerging from preseason camp as UL's No. 4 quarterback behind returning starter Levi Lewis; fellow s cholarship redshirt freshman Chandler Fields, who's spent most of this season listed on the depth chart as the Cajuns' No. 2; and Jaiave Magalei, a juco transfer who was the backup last season. McDowell continues to work with the UL's scout team even whi le seeking a new home. "Cliff's done a good job for us," Napier said of McDowell, who also took reps with receivers during camp. - Daily Advertiser
