Offensive lineman Taylor Poitier didn't play in a single game for the Kansas State football team last season after he suffered a torn ACL in training camp. The junior saw action in one game this year before his season was cut short because of the exact s ame injury. "It's a cruel thing, man," K-State football coach Chris Klieman said on Tuesday. "He tore a knee again and he will be out for the season. It's an awful outcome. Sometimes the cruelest things happen to the best kids." Poitier, a 6-foot-3 and 2 91-pound right guard who played for Bishop Miege High School, injured his lower body during K-State's 34-0 victory over South Dakota on Saturday. The injury occurred in the second quarter. He walked off the field under his own power, but he was unable to return to the game. A trainer escorted him to the team's locker room, signaling that he might be dealing with a significant injury. - Kansas City Star

When Kansas State football coach Chris Klieman announced last summer that Taylor Poitier was going to miss the 2021 season with a torn ACL, some shrugged off the news because they didn't comprehend how much of an impact he was expected to make on the off ensive line. The 6-foot-2 junior from Bishop Miege had only played in four games for the Wildcats, and they all came during a COVID-shortened season that resulted in just four victories. It was natural for some to wonder if K-State would really miss him up front.But make no mistake: the Wildcats are expecting big things from Poitier now that he is healthy and poised to take over as the team's starting right guard. "Taylor Poitier might've been our best offensive lineman last year," K-State coach Chris Klieman said last week at a Catbacker event, "but he lost his year to an ACL. He's a load in there. We get him back, which is really good." That is saying a lot, considering Cooper Beebe was an All-Big 12 selection last season. "He's a competitive young man," added K-State offensive coordinator Collin Klein. "He's extremely twitchy and very smart, so when he gets a double team on him he works his way out of it. He is incredibly strong and he has a lot of snap. It's huge (to have him back). It give s you a lot of flexibility in how you put the pieces together inside." - The Kansas City Star

Taylor Poitier won't have an opportunity to build off the momentum he had at the end of last season. Kansas State head coach Chris Klieman said Tuesday that Poitier, a third-year sophomore lineman, will miss the entire 2021 campaign. Klieman said that Po itier suffered "a lower body injury" in preseason camp. "We're sad for Taylor," Klieman said, "because he's such a tremendous kid and such a tremendous football player." Poitier, who starred at Kansas high school powerhouse Bishop Miege, played in four g ames last year, including starts at right guard in each of the final two contests (at Baylor and home versus Texas).Poitier's first career appearance in the starting lineup as a Wildcat came in that road affair against the Bears. Second on the dep th chart that week, he was forced into action after both of K-State's starting guards (Josh Rivas and Ben Adler) didn't travel with the team. Left guard had a new starter that day, too: Dawson Delforge. After the last-second, 32-31 loss, star running bac k Deuce Vaughn praised Poitier and Delforge's performances.
