 Marvin Grant, Kansas, Player News

  08/29/22 - SS Marvin GrantrSr/2025, Kansas, 6-2, 210 (DS#45 SS) + More +

When Marvin Grant entered the transfer portal earlier this year, the first school he heard from was Kansas. That the Jayhawks would pursue Grant, after he'd spent the first three seasons of his college football career at Purdue, didn't come as much of a surprise. There were connections between Kansas and Grant, like a high school teammate of his in senior linebacker Rich Miller, on top of the Jayhawks needing the experience in the secondary a talent like Grant could provide. And Grant, looking to experience something different, was sold on Kansas after his visit.

While Grant spent fall camp building on his experience within the Jayhawks' defense, taking rep after rep with different units as he followed the coaching, it's clear where the redshirt junior safety's mindset is at. He wants to start when Kansas opens the season Sept. 2 at home against Tennessee Tech - because that's what he thinks each of his teammates at the position should be thinking as well. "Every safeties' expectations are to be the No. 1 guy," said Grant, who started each of Purdue's 13 games last season. "I mean, nobody comes to sit and be behind nobody...That's how we motivate each other at the same time, motivate each other to get better each and every day." Where Grant fits in at safety, as of last week, had yet to be determined from his perspective. - Topeka Capital Journal

  05/20/22 - SS Marvin GrantrSr/2025, Kansas, 6-2, 210 (DS#45 SS) + More +

Marvin Grant, a highly regarded safety in the Class of 2019 who was a starter at Purdue last season, became the latest player to commit to transfer to Kansas when he did so on Thursday. Grant, who is 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, was the No. 138 prospect in his high school class, according to Rivals.com. He started all 13 games for the Boilermakers last season and finished second on the team with 52 tackles.

A graduate of Martin Luther King High in Detroit, Grant was a high school classmate of Kansas linebacker Rich Miller, who originally enrolled to play for coach Lance Leipold at Buffalo before following Leipold and several assistants to Kansas prior to last season. He is the second safety who has decided to transfer to Kansas in the past two days. Jarrett Paul, who spent last season at Eastern Michigan after starting at Rutgers, committed to play for the Jayhawks at the end of his official visit on Wednesday. Grant decided to transfer earlier this month and made an official visit to Kansas last week. - Lawrence Journal World
