When Marvin Grant entered the transfer portal earlier this year, the first school he heard from was Kansas. That the Jayhawks would pursue Grant, after he'd spent the first three seasons of his college football career at Purdue, didn't come as much of a surprise. There were connections between Kansas and Grant, like a high school teammate of his in senior linebacker Rich Miller, on top of the Jayhawks needing the experience in the secondary a talent like Grant could provide. And Grant, looking to experi ence something different, was sold on Kansas after his visit. While Grant spent fall camp building on his experience within the Jayhawks' defense, taking rep after rep with different units as he followed the coaching, it's clear where the redshirt junior safety's mindset is at. He wants to start when Kansas opens the season Sept. 2 at home against Tennessee Tech - because that's what he thinks each of his teammates at the position should be thinking as well. "Every safeties' expectations are to be the No. 1 guy," said Grant, who started each of Purdue's 13 games last season. "I mean, nobody comes to sit and be behind nobody...That's how we motivate each other at the same time, motivate each other to get better each and every day." Where Grant fit s in at safety, as of last week, had yet to be determined from his perspective. - Topeka Capital Journal
