The Illinois football team has added a plethora of transfers this offseason entering Bret Bielema's first season in charge. The Illini have also lost a handful of players, too. Six members of last year's team are no longer with the program, the team conf irmed on Tuesday, and two quarterbacks who started at least one game last season for the Illini are now at different positions. A whirlwind day of roster reshuffling saw running back Kyron Cumby, offensive lineman Brevyn Jones, offensive lineman Blaise S parks, defensive lineman Tre'Von Riggins and defensive lineman Anthony Shipton all confirm via social media posts they have left the Illini program and entered the transfer portal. Cumby saw brief playing time at both running back and wide receiver durin g the last two seasons with the Illini. The 5-8, 180-pound Cumby played in nine games at Illinois, hauling in four receptions for 42 yards and running twice for 11 yards while returning four punts for 51 yards. - News Gazette Tribune

Kyron Cumby had a big moment in his Illinois debut in the 2019 season opener against Akron, turning his first career reception into a 31-yard gain. The Plano, Texas, native ultimately went the four games and then redshirt route last season. Cumby's name, however, keeps coming up when both Lovie Smith and offensive coordinator Rod Smith discuss the Illini offense ahead of the 2020 season. The 5-foot-8, 180-pound receiver has made an impression on his teammates, too. "He's got a lot of speed," redshirt ju nior receiver Donny Navarro said. "He works really hard. He listens really well and is coachable. I know the coaching staff is excited for him. He's excited for himself. He's ready to get out and make an impact this year. He's a good guy to have in the r oom." - News Gazette Tribune
