Cincinnati has hired Louisville's Scott Satterfield to be its next coach, the university announced Monday. Louisville was 7-5 this season under Satterfield and earned a berth in the Fenway Bowl, where coincidentally it will face Cincinnati. He replaces L uke Fickell, who recently left to become coach at Wisconsin. Satterfield said he was honored to become coach of the Bearcats and looked forward to continuing the program's winning tradition. "I'm excited to take Cincinnati into the Big 12 this fall and r eady to compete for championships," he said in a statement. "I'm most looking forward to meeting the current team and beginning to build relationships with these young men. We will hit the ground running today." Athletic director John Cunningham called S atterfield "a proven winner" and noted his competitiveness and culture-building."He's an innovative offensive mind and a leader who develops men on and off the field," Cunningham said in the statement. "He's the perfect fit to grow this program an d lead us into the Big 12 next season and beyond." The Cardinals overcame starts of 2-3 overall and 0-3 in Atlantic Coast Conference play with a 5-2 stretch run highlighted by wins over then-No. 10 Wake Forest, Pittsburgh and North Carolina State. Their disappointing start fueled speculation at midseason that Satterfield would be fired before Louisville won 34-17 at Virginia to begin its second-half surge toward bowl eligibility. It also finished 4-4 in league play despite a 31-16 loss at Clemson. - AP College Football

Gino Guidugli, who has served as Cincinnati's quarterbacks coach since 2018, is taking over the offense this season after Fickell's longtime offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock joined Brian Kelly at LSU. Guidugli acknowledged that Prater and Bryant are v astly different quarterbacks. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Bryant is more of a pocket passer, while Prater, the 6-foot-4, 200-pound 2019 Ohio Mr. Football from Wyoming High School, possesses a more athletic, dual-threat skill set. Guidugli said Prater's and B ryant's reps will rotate differently each day, as he is scripting practices in a way that caters to each player's strengths to give them both an opportunity to succeed. "Hopefully, when it's all said and done, the arrows are pointing in one direction and it's not that tough a decision," Guidugli said. "They're really both playing their ass off." - Cincinnati Enquirer

The American Athletic Conference announced an agreement Friday with Cincinnati, Houston and UCF that paves the way for the schools to join the Big 12 in 2023. The three schools announced in September they had accepted invitations to join the Big 12, whic h moved quickly to a rebuild its membership after Texas and Oklahoma revealed they planned to join the Southeastern Conference in 2025. Along with the addition of BYU in 2023, the Big 12 is set to be a 14-team conference for two years. The American requires its members give more than two years' notice before they can leave the conference, plus a $10 million exit fee. The AAC said its remaining members agreed to terminate the memberships of Cincinnati, Houston and UCF, effective July 1, 2023. Terms were not disclosed. American Commissioner Mike Aresco thanked the leadership of the departing schools for arriving at a "sensible resolution." All three institutions enjoyed tremendous success under the American Athletic Conference banner, and all three were instrumental in taking the conference "to great heights, both athletically and academically," Aresco said. "We wish them the best and look forward to having them compete in our conference in 2022-23." - AP College Football
