Louisville opens the season against Ole Miss on Sept. 6 and coach Scott Satterfield said the Cardinals will be at full strength. That includes safety Josh Minkins, who missed the entire spring session and much of the summer with an offseason injury. Duri ng ACC Media Days, Satterfield said Minkins was working his way back onto the field but wasn't sure when he would be in shape to play. "Will he be in good enough shape to play the first game? I don't know. That's a question mark," Satterfield said. "Will it be three games or conference play? I just don't know where he'll be physically. We want to be able to count on him as we head forward because he played a little bit last year."That time is now. Minkins, a Louisville native and Ballard graduate , played in six games last year and had six tackles. The coaching staff entered this year with high hopes for the athletic safety. His progress, after injury, was faster than the staff expected. "He had some issues with his shoulder but he's progressed a lot faster than we thought he would," Satterfield said. "We actually thought he would be ready for the start of the season, we didn't know if it would be the first game, second game or the third game. We are glad he's available now." - Courier Journal

Louisville's safety depth has been a big concern this offseason, but it got a slight boost with coach Scott Satterfield's comments during Thursday's ACC Media Days session. Satterfield said that safety Josh Minkins, who got hurt in January and missed aro und four or five months, is back working out with the team. After last season, the Ballard graduate projected to be an important piece to the safety rotation that was losing Russ Yeast and Isaiah Hayes. The coaching staff had high hopes for the 6-foot-2, 179-pound safety, as well, but his offseason development was derailed by an injury that left him sidelined the entire month. Now he's back and will likely backup transfers Kenderick Duncan Jr., and Qwynnterrio Cole while battling freshmen Brayln O liver and Ben Perry for time. The question now is, when will Minkins return to the field in a game? "Will he be in good enough shape to play the first game? I don't know. That's a question mark," Satterfield said. "Will it be three games or conference pl ay? I just don't know where he'll be physically. We want to be able to count on him as we head forward because he played a little bit last year." Last season Minkins played in eight games and recorded six tackles, making his first career tackle in a road game at Pittsburgh. - Courier Journal
