Demarkcus Bowman is verified fast. The former Florida Gators running back posted sub-4.5-second speed in the 40-yard dash in the past and finished in 2nd place in the 2019 Florida 4A 100-meter event with a time of 11.01 - less than a second off Olympic q ualifying time. That's why, three years since the state track meet, Bowman's speed is an impactful addition to UCF's running back room. He joins a running back room that features fifth-year senior Isaiah Bowser, junior Johnny Richardson, redshirt juniors Mark-Antony Richards and RJ Harvey, redshirt senior Trillion Coles and freshman Jordan McDonald.With Bowser and Coles out of eligibility following this season, Bowman will have an opportunity to compete for the starting job as the Knights transit ion to the Big 12 Conference in 2023. Because he's transferred once before, UCF's inaugural year in the Power Five league coincides with when Bowman could first see the field in Orlando, unless he applies for a waiver from the NCAA for this season. What' s most intriguing about Bowman is his potential. The 5-foot-9, 192-pound speedster has barely had the chance to use his elite speed in college. Former Florida Gators running back Demarkcus Bowman is transferring to UCF, he announced on social media Monday. "Orlando vs. everybody," Bowman wrote on Twitter, tagging UCF coach Gus Malzahn among others in his announcement. Bowman is the second ex-Gat or to head to the Orlando school this offseason joining tight end Kemore Gamble. This past season in Gainesville, Bowman saw action in five games, four of which he served as a reserve running back while rushing 14 times for 81 yards.Prior to Flori da, Bowman spent his freshman season at Clemson in 2020. Taking a redshirt, the 5-foot-9, 192-pound running back appeared in two games before transferring to Florida. Because he's transferred once before, Bowman will have to sit a season at UCF before se eing the field, unless he receives a waiver from the NCAA. UCF is his third school in two years. Regardless, the redshirt sophomore will have at least four years of eligibility remaining thanks to an extra year granted to athletes from the NCAA due to th e COVID-19 pandemic. - Orlando Sentinel

The Gators' backfield took a hit Friday with Demarkcus Bowman's decision to transfer from the Florida football program, a source confirmed to The Gainesville Sun. Bowman is the fourth UF player to exit the program within the last week, following the depa rtures of Mordecai McDaniel, Fenley Graham and Chris Thomas Jr. Bowman seemingly confirmed his imminent departure on social media, saying "I love the Ville", followed by a sad face emoji, on his Twitter account.It's not Bowman's first time seeking out a new college destination. A former standout at Lakeland High, Bowman initially signed with Clemson University as a five-star prospect before opting to transfer after the 2020 season. During his first season with the program, Bowman found himself be hind Dameon Pierce, Malik Davis and Nay'Quan Wright on Florida's depth chart, resulting in just four appearances during the 2021 campaign. He finished the season with just 14 carries for 81 yards, though Bowman was expected to compete for a larger role d uring coach Billy Napier's inaugural season with the program. - Gainesville Sun

Dan Mullen discussed Florida's trio of new transfers for the first time Monday when he opened his virtual spring speaking tour. The Gators' fourth-year coach held no news conference on National Signing Day, as the program officially announced the additio n of running back Demarkcus Bowman (Clemson) and defensive tackles Daquan Newkirk (Auburn) and Antonio Shelton (Penn State). "All three of them are on the team right now getting ready to start spring practice," Mullen said. "So recruiting is a little bit different than it used to be with the whole transfer portal." Bowman was a consensus five-star recruit in the Class of 2020 and decided to transfer to Florida last October. Earlier during the 2021 recruiting cycle, Mullen apparently caught some heat fro m fans when the Gators didn't have a running back committed. "I know what Bowman brings in," Mullen said. The redshirt freshman transfer from Clemson walks into a deep running back room at UF, but one that could use a home-run threat like him. While the Gators' top three backs return in Dameon Pierce (503 yards), Malik Davis (310 yards) and Nay'Quan Wright ( 213 yards), their rushing offense ranked 96th nationally. UF will look to lean on the ground game more in 2021 and Bowman's top-end speed gives him an opportunity to crack the rotation this spring. The Florida Gators have gained their fourth five-star transfer of the year as Clemson running back Demarkcus Bowman, originally from Lakeland, has confirmed he will transfer, according to 247Sports.com. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound Bowman appeared in both of Clemson’s games this season, running for 32 yards on 17 carries, before deciding to transfer. Clemson freshman running back Demarkcus Bowman has put his name in the transfer portal. Team spokesman Ross Taylor said Thursday that Bowman talked with Clemson coaches about his desire to transfer. Bowman is a 5-foot-10, 190-pound tailback from Lakeland , Florida, who was rated a five-star recruit who enrolled early and was part of the Tigers' spring practice, cut short last March with the school's shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney compared Bowman's speed and ability w ith that of former Tigers and NFL runner C.J. Spiller. Bowman ran for 5,081 yards with 71 touchdowns during his high school career. He had offers from several prominent programs including Alabama, Auburn and Florida. - AP College Football

Dabo Swinney hesitated to make the comparison, knowing that it would create lofty expectations for his new running back duo. But Clemson's head coach had to be honest. After watching freshman running backs Demarkcus Bowman and Kobe Pace practice during f all camp, Swinney couldn't help but think about another running back tandem that used to make plays on the Tigers practice field. "I hate to say it, but it's just kind of what you think about...for Clemson people it's the best way to describe it. It's li ke thunder and lightning all over again," Swinney said. James Davis and C.J. Spiller earned that nickname while establishing themselves as the best running back duo in school history when they played together from 2005-08. Davis (thunder) was a bigger ba ck at 210 pounds, who did most of his damage between the tackles. He finished his career with 3,881 rushing yards, which ranks third all-time at Clemson.Spiller (lightning) was a smaller back who preferred running around defenders or juking them a s opposed to running between the tackles. He finished his career with 3,547 rushing yards, which ranks fourth all-time in school history. It remains to be seen if the new duo of Pace (thunder) and Bowman (lightning) can create a similar kind of lethal ba ckfield, but Swinney loves their potential. "You've got Kobe Pace who is this big, strong, physical powerful runner. And then you've got Bowman who can just absolutely fly," Swinney said. "They're complete polar opposites but both really, really, really good football players. So I'm excited about what they both bring to the table."
