Joe Fagnano threw two touchdown passes and Kahzir Brown returned an interception for a score to lead Maine to a 38-28 win over Monmouth on Saturday. Fagnano had a 9-yard TD pass to Shawn Bowman, a score set up by a fumble recovery, and Freddie Brock scor ed on a 33-yard run before the pick-6 to propel the Black Bears (2-4, 2-1 Colonial Athletic Association) to their sixth straight homecoming win. Tony Muskett's second touchdown pass, in the final minute of the first half pulled the Hawks (4-3, 2-2) withi n 21-14. But a three-play 80-yard drive to open the second half and a three-play, 14-yard drive produced two touchdowns a minute apart that had the Black Bears up 35-14. Elijah Barnwell scored on a 1-yard plunge a play after Fagnano and Kobay White had a 77-yard connection. Thomas Mai recovered a Monmouth fumble on the kickoff before Fagnano hit Montigo Moss for 14 yards. Fagnano was 14 of 23 for 181 yards with White catching six for 115. Joe Fagnano passed for two touchdowns, Maine picked off four passes and the Black Bears defeated New Hampshire 33-20 in a season finale Saturday. Fagnano passed 30 yards to Andre Miller following one of the interceptions to put the Black Bears (6-5, 4-4 Colonial Athletic Association) up 27-20 midway through the third quarter. Jonny Messina added his third and fourth field goals of the game for the final margin. Fagnano was 21 of 34 for 249 yards passing. Elijah Barnwell rushed for 94 yards on 20 carries . Tommy Herion threw for three touchdowns but was picked off on four consecutive possessions as the Wildcats (3-8, 2-6) lost their eighth straight game. Carlos Washington Jr. had 101 yards rushing and Dylan Laube added 100. Maine's four interceptions — two by Kahzir Brown — were the most for the Black Bears since picking off four against Weber State in 2018. Joe Fagnano threw a pair of scores, Elija Barnwell ran for two and Maine handed reeling UMass its second-straight loss to a FCS opponent, 35-10 on Saturday. After the Minutemen (1-9) lost to Rhode Island 35-22 last week, head coach Walt Bell and defensiv e coordinator Tommy Restivo were fired. They didn't fare any better under interim coach Alex Miller. UMass took a 10-0 in the first quarter with 147 yards of total offense. They gained just 150 more the rest of the way. Freddie Brock scored on an 18-yard run in the second quarter to complete an 86-yard drive and the Black Bears took the lead on Fagnano's 8-yard pass to Devin Young.Fagnano found Shawn Brown for 14 yards in the third quarter and Barnwell scored on 2 and 23-yard runs in the fourth. Maine (5-5) had 366 yards of total offense. Fagnano threw for 209 yards, Barnwell rushed for 84 and Brock 74. It was the 60th meeting between the former conference rivals but only the third since UMass made the jump to FBS. This is the second time Maine beat the FBS Minutemen and fourth FBS win overall. Joe Fagnano's 11-yard touchdown pass to Earnest Edward's with 34 seconds left capped Maine's fourth-quarter comeback and the Black Bears beat Rhode Island 34-30 on Saturday. Fagnano led Maine (6-5, 4-3 Colonial Athletic Association) on a five-play, 81-ya rd drive in 73 seconds with a 44-yard completion to Devin Young on the initial play of the drive. Rhode Island (2-9, 0-7) ended the game when Vito Priore completed a 32-yard pass to Ahmere Dorsey at Maine's 18-yard line.Rhode Island started the fo urth with a 24-13 lead and extended it a to a two-score margin with C.J. Carrick's 38-yard field goal with 9:52 left. Emmanuel Reed's 12-yard TD run reduced the margin on Maine's ensuing drive. Carrick missed a 44-yard attempt on the Rams' next drive, wh ich Maine took advantage of when Joe Fitzaptrick knotted the score with a 3-yard TD run. Carrick made a 29-yarder for the Rams last lead of the game. Fagnano was 20-of-29 passing for 216 yards and two scores. Joe Fagnano passed for 320 yards and two touchdowns, Earnest Edwards caught five passes for 153 yards and a score, and Maine beat Elon 31-17 on Saturday for its third straight victory. Maine scored a touchdown on its first four possessions of the game, i ncluding Devin Young's 60-yarder on the fourth offensive play. Edwards had an 88-yard catch-and-run for the third score and he completed a 2-yard pass to Jaquan Blair to cap the scoring run with 4:42 left in the first quarter. Emmanuel Reed had a game-hi gh 55 yards rushing and Joe Fitzpatrick ran for a score for Maine (5-5, 3-3 Colonia Athletic Association). The Black Bears' defense registered six sacks, recovered two fumbles and held Elon to 276 total yards. Edwards went over 100 receiving yards for th e fifth time this season and passed for his fifth career touchdown. Joe Fagnano threw four touchdown passes and Maine rode a 23-point fourth quarter to a 47-31 victory over Albany on Saturday. Leading 24-21 at halftime, Maine (4-5, 2/3 Colonial Athletic Association) poured it on in the third quarter. The Black Bears scor ed on a field goal, a pick-6 by Ori Jean-Charles and two of Fagnano's touchdown passes to take a 47-24 lead heading to the fourth quarter. In the fourth, Jeff Undercuffler threw his fourth touchdown pass of the game for the Great Danes (5-4, 3-2), a 5-ya rd connection with Thomas Greaney.Undercuffler, a redshirt freshman, completed 25 of 49 passes for 387 yards but was sacked five times. He had two 100-yard receivers -- Juwan Green with four catches for 111 yards and Jerah Reeves with seven for 10 9. The Great Danes were held to 67 yards rushing. Fagnano completed 12 of 18 passes for 257 yards. The biggest strike of his four TDs was a 90-yard hookup with Andre Miller for the Black Bears' first touchdown. Joe Fagnano ran threw for 249 yards and two touchdowns and Maine beat William & Mary 34-25 on Saturday. The Tribe built leads of 6-0 and 12-7 but couldn't make them hold up. Receiver Earnest Edwards threw a 19-yard scoring pass to Jaquan Blair to give Ma ine (3-5, 1/3 Colonial Athletic Association) a 7-6 lead. Later, Fagnano threw a 67-yard score to Edwards for a 14-12 lead Maine would never surrender. Joe Fitzpatrick's 1-yard run with 6:12 remaining before halftime made it 21-12. Then, on the second pla y of the second half, Fagnano threw a 64-yard TD pass to Blair for a 16-point lead. Blair caught four passes for 115 yards. Hollis Mathis rushed 52 yards and scored three times for the Tribe (2-6, 0-4), but he struggled throwing the ball and completed ju st 4 of 22 pass attempts for 68 yards. OCT 21 CAA FOOTBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Joe Fagnano, Fr., QB, Maine (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport),...In his first collegiate start, Fagnano completed 25-of-37 passes for 445 yards and five touchdowns in Maine's 59-44 setback at FBS foe Liberty. The 44 5 passing yards were the most by a Maine quarterback since 2009 and he was just the third Black Bear QB to throw for 5 TD's since 2009.
