Trey Sanders will become the third Alabama player since the end of the regular season to transfer to TCU. Sanders announced on Instagram he has committed to play for the Horned Frogs after entering the NCAA transfer portal in late November. Sanders - a r edshirt junior from Port St. Joe, Florida - joins wide receiver JoJo Earle and offensive tackle Tommy Brockermeyer, both Fort Worth-area natives, in transferring to TCU this offseason. They will not be eligible to play in the Horned Frogs' national champ ionship game against Georgia next week.A five-star recruit to Alabama in 2019, Sanders missed his freshman season because of a foot injury and had his 2020 season ended by injuries sustained in a car accident, including a broken pelvis. He returne d to score a touchdown in the 2021 season opener but played a minimal role on offense the past two seasons, contributing mostly on special teams. - Birmingham News

Saban gave an update on second-year running back Trey Sanders, who is out for the season after being injured in a recent car accident. "Trey had surgery to repair his hip," Saban said. "We're very thankful that he is going to be OK. The surgery was very successful. It'll probably be a couple months, trying to get back to where he can start working out again and doing things. It wasn't the same kind of hip injury that Tua had. But nonetheless needed surgery. I think he thinks he's blessed and very fortun ate that this could have been worse. We're thankful that he's going to be able to come back and be able to play again sometime in the future." - Birmingham News

Alabama coach Nick Saban says running back Trey Sanders is out indefinitely after undergoing surgery for unspecified injuries sustained in a car accident. Saban said Monday Sanders' surgery was successful and that he was at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. "W e expect him to have a full recovery," Saban said. "But I do think that he is probably out indefinitely. There's no real timetable. He's going to be OK, but pretty serious stuff." Sanders was injured in an accident on Friday morning. The former 5-star pr ospect missed last season with a foot injury but was coming off his best game for the top-ranked Crimson Tide against Mississippi State. Sanders ran 12 times for 80 yards in the game. Tide quarterback Mac Jones said he texted Sanders Monday morning. "He was really showing a lot this season, and he's a great guy," Jones said. - AP College Football

Alabama sophomore running back Trey Sanders made his debut Saturday and touched the ball 10 times. On those touches, Sanders had a net loss of 1 yard for the game. That total was a combination of 1 yard gained on nine carries, as well as 2 yards lost on one catch. It was hardly the result Alabama fans were expecting in the long-awaited debut of Sanders, who missed all of his freshman season because of a foot injury. On Monday, coach Nick Saban added context to the performance. "We had a couple other off ensive linemen in there," Saban said during his video news conference. "Trey didn't have a lot of opportunity, but at the same time, I think the experience will do him well." Sanders, rated as the No. 6 overall recruit nationally in the 2019 class, is th e Tide's top-remaining player from last year's class after once-No. 5 overall prospect Antonio Alfano transferred last season. - Birmingham News

Alabama will have to move forward without the top-ranked offensive player from this year's freshman class. Five-star freshman running back Trey Sanders suffered a significant foot injury on the last play of the team's practice Thursday night and is expec ted to miss the entire season, according to sources. It's an unfortunate blow for the Crimson Tide. Sanders, the top-ranked running back and No. 6 overall recruit in this year's recruiting class, had seemingly gotten off to a great start at Alabama and w as expected to be a factor within the Tide's running back rotation this season."Trey Sanders is doing really, really well in camp," Alabama coach Nick Saban said earlier this week. "His work ethic is really good. He's learning every day. His atten tion to detail seems to be pretty good. He's got some ability I think may be able to contribute to the team." - Birmingham News
