Depth and experience will be the two main ingredients for a new-look Arizona State Sun Devils offensive line in 2022. ASU only has two returning starters in senior left guard LaDarius Henderson and redshirt junior center Ben Scott, who was the team's right tackle last season. That's due to the departures of former Sun Devil center Dohnovan West and left tackle Kellen Diesch, who signed as undrafted free agents with the San Francisco 49ers and Miami Dolphins, respectively. Highly touted four-star recruit Ezra Dotson-Oyetade also transferred to TCU during an offseason that saw an exodus of players leave the Arizona State football program.

But head coach Herm Edwards and offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh brought in a plethora of new offensive linemen who could see the Sun Devils go seven or eight deep at the position group. "Well, I think it's going to be eight guys to be quite honest - the offensive line. We're going to rotate guys because we have some talented guys. Just have to find the best fits for all those guys," Edwards said on Aug. 8. "But there's going to be more than five guys. You got to have at least a solid seven to eight guys playing. And we've done that here in the past, we don't just play five guys. We play sometimes seven, we might play eight this year depending who they are. "But what's great about them, a lot of them can play dual positions. Some of them can play center, guard. We got some guys who can play guard, tackle. That helps us because you always want to feel like you have multiple positions of offensive lineman, so we're fortunate that way with those guys." - Arizonasports.com

When Ben Scott entered Arizona State nearly four seasons ago, he came in alongside fellow offensive linemen Dohnovan West and LaDarius Henderson. Little did the three freshmen know that they would become mainstays in ASU's offensive line over the next few years with Henderson and West becoming starters as true freshmen and Scott starting in his redshirt freshman season in 2020. The trio moved down to two once West went pro after last season and now is with the San Francisco 49ers. West was a three-year starter and held down the center position last season.

Finding a new center wasn't as difficult of a task considering Scott's expansive experience at the position. In high school, Scott played at center while winning three consecutive state championships with St. Louis High School in Honolulu. Scott played at right tackle in every game last season and became the choice after taking most of the snaps at center during spring practice. "It's been a lot better than expected and I feel like center is more of a home for me than right tackle was. I feel like I'm much more built for center so it's kind of where I would thrive most in and getting all the calls right, it's been a pretty smooth process," Scott said. - Arizona Republic

Arizona State redshirt junior offensive lineman Ben Scott figures to take over starting duties at center for the Sun Devils this season. Scott was ASU's starting right tackle last year, but following the departure of starting center Dohnovan West to the NFL and former four-star recruit Ezra Dotson-Oyetade transferring to TCU, there's a gaping hole in the middle of ASU's offensive line.

"I think center will be the best position for me at the moment...I got to prove that I am the best center in the Pac-12, which I believe I will be," Scott said Wednesday. "I feel like I am a lot more athletic than a majority of nose tackles." Scott was named to Athlon Sports' 2022 preseason Pac-12 Football All-Conference Third-Team Offense. And with new transfers coming and going for Arizona State football, Scott noticed one thing that has pleased him thus far during the offseason. "The chemistry is a lot better than I anticipated...A while back we all went to Topgolf and it was fun getting that chemistry going between all of us," Scott said. - ArizonaSports.com
