High expectations attended Georgia Tech defensive end Kevin Harris, a transfer from Alabama, prior to last season. Harris' transfer was prompted after he did not see the field for the Crimson Tide in 2020, but he had also been a four-star prospect at Gra yson High. He was rated the No. 123 player nationally in the 2019 class and the No. 15 player in Georgia (247Sports Composite). In the preseason last year, his one-on-one pass-rush battles with left tackle Devin Cochran also gave a picture of the quickne ss that Harris was bringing to the position. He was also included in The Athletic's annual list of college football freaks because of his uncommon strength (31 bench-press reps of 225 pounds) and explosiveness (39-inch vertical leap). Once the sea son began, the awaited production did not materialize. In his first season on the field, Harris played behind starter Jordan Domineck and fellow backup Kyle Kennard at the rush end position. Appearing in all 12 games, he finished with six tackles. "I fee l like there were a lot of things I could have improved on, those being my first couple snaps of real-game snaps," Harris said in an interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Aug. 6 at the team's media day. Kevin Harris, a defensive end who transferred from Alabama after two years with the Crimson Tide, has been conspicuous in his ability to use his speed and power to create pass-rush pressure around the edge. Harris, from Grayson High, has the potential to be a difference-maker for the Jackets, who need to do better at pressuring quarterbacks with a four-man pass rush. Collins said that Harris has been "just relentlessly working every single day" and shared his excitement about another newcomer at end, ea rly-enrollee freshman Josh Robinson from Douglas County High. Both fit into the physical mold that Collins has established for the position. All of Tech's scholarship defensive ends are between 6-foot-3 and 6-6, starting at 235 pounds and going up to 270 . Harris is 6-4 and 240 pounds. Robinson is 6-4 and 235 pounds. A second-year Alabama outside linebacker has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Redshirt freshman Kevin Harris, a four-star member of the Crimson Tide's 2019 recruiting class, went into the transfer portal Friday afternoon, AL.com has learned. While Harri s flashed some pass rush ability during preseason practices, the Georgia native hadn't gotten any game action during his first two seasons with the Crimson Tide. Harris becomes the fifth member of Alabama's 2019 recruiting class to leave the program, joi ning five-star defensive lineman Antonio Alfano, top-50 defensive lineman Ishmael Sopsher, four-star cornerback Scooby Carter and four-star quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa. - Birmingham News
