Nick Nash accounted for three touchdowns, Emmett Brown threw three touchdown passes and San Jose State defeated Sacramento State 42-24 on Thursday night in the debut of Ken Niumatalolo as coach of the Spartans. Nash caught 10 passes for 170 yards with tw o touchdowns. The former quarterback also threw one pass - a 26-yard touchdown to Jacob Stewart in the second quarter. Brown, a sophomore transfer from Washington State, completed 20 of 34 passes for 298 yards. Floyd Chalk IV, a junior transfer from Gram bling State, had 87 yards rushing and scored twice for the Spartans. Sacramento State rolled up 160 yards in the first quarter, led 14-7 and had the ball inside the 10-yard line at the end of the period. Quarterback Nick Nash accounted for 262 yards of total offense and a pair of touchdowns and San Jose State led all the way in a 27-21 win over Wyoming on Saturday. Nash threw for 150 yards and a touchdown and ran for 112 yards on 11 carries and scored on ce on the ground. His 1-yard touchdown run in the second quarter made it 7-0 early in the second quarter. The Spartans (5-4, 3-2 Mountain West Conference) defense came up with an interception of Levi Williams on the following drive, which led to Matt Mer curio's 36-yard field goal and a 10-0 lead. Williams responded with a 54-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Neyor on Wyoming's ensuing drive (4-4, 0-4), but the Spartans responded with a seven-play, 81-yard drive that ended when Kairee Robinson ran it in from the 9-yard line to make it a 10-point game again. Nick Nash scored the winning touchdown on a 15-yard quarterback draw as San Jose State turned a blocked field goal into the decisive drive, beating UNLV 27-20 on Thursday night. Nash passed for 213 yards and ran for a career-high 121 more. The Spartans ( 4-4, 2-2 Mountain West) never led until there was 7:06 remaining in the game, capping a comeback 24-3 run and then holding off UNLV's final 19-play drive until time expired. The Rebels came as close as the 11-yard line. San Jose State, the defending Moun tain West champion, had fought into a 20-20 tie a series earlier after a grinding 88-yard, 11-play drive on Tyler Neven's TD from the 10 - cutting away from would-be tacklers at the 5 - less than a minute into the fourth quarter.The Spartans then partially blocked a 39-yard field goal attempt, foiling UNLV's attempt to retake the lead. Rebels kicker Daniel Gutierrez had hit twice earlier, including a career-long 53-yarder, extending his school-record streak of made field goals to 16. The loss ext ends UNLV's losing streak to 12 games, reaching through the 2020 season. Early on, UNLV (0-7, 0-3) turned two San Jose State fumbles into short touchdown drives - from the 20 and the 18 - as the Rebels built a 17-3 lead deep into the second quarter. Nick Nash threw three touchdown passes, Tyler Nevers had 22 carries for 115 yards and a score and San Jose State beat New Mexico State 37-31 on Saturday night. Nash was 14-of-17 passing for 195 yards with no interceptions. Derrick Deese Jr. had seven rec eptions for 130 yards and a touchdown for San Jose State (3-2). Matt Mercurio kicked a 38-yard field goal to give the Spartans the lead for good at 17-14 with 1:09 left in the second quarter. On the next play from scrimmage Nehemiah Shelton intercepted a pass and, one play later, Nash hit Deese for a 12-yard touchdown to make it 24-14 at halftime. Backup Nick Nash threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another score with 1:32 remaining, and San Jose State took advantage of three fourth-quarter turnovers to beat San Diego State 28-17 on Friday night. San Jose State has started a season 3-0 for the first time since 1982. SJSU trailed 17-14 early in the fourth quarter before its defense and special teams took over.
