Kylin James ran for 155 yards, Jarrod Barnes returned a punt for a touchdown, and Central Arkansas blew past Stephen F. Austin 34-7 on Saturday. Will McElvain threw two touchdown passes and Hayden Ray kicked two field goals to give the Bears a 20-0 halft ime lead. Things got explosive late in the third quarter for Central Arkansas (5-5). First, backup quarterback Clifton McDowell hit James with a 38-yard touchdown pass, then four plays later Barnes returned a punt 67 yards for a touchdown and a 34-0 lead .The Lumberjacks (5-5) finally got on the board with a 13-yard scoring pass from Brian Maurer to Griffin Edwards with 1:38 remaining. McElvain was 12-of-17 passing for 136 yards with the two first-half touchdowns. He was intercepted once. Three qu arterbacks combined to go 14-of-31 passing for 73 yards for the Lumberjacks. Will McElvain threw four touchdown passes, Darius Hale added two rushing TDs and Central Arkansas scored 42 second-half points to beat Austin Peay 49-20 Saturday night. McElvain completed 20 of 31 passes for 261 yards with an interception and completed a t least one pass to nine different receivers. Hale finished with 12 carries for 50 yards. On the game's opening drive, Austin Peay failed to convert a fourth-and-1 play from its own 34 and five plays later McElvain hit Christian Richmond for a 14-yard to uchdown with 11:38 left in the first quarter and Central Arkansas (2-3, 1-0 ASUN) led the rest of the way.Maddux Trujillo kicked a 45-yard field goal early in the second quarter and a 23-yarder just before halftime to make it 7-6 but McElvain conn ected with Myles Kitt-Denton for a 44-yard touchdown just over a minute into the third quarter, Hale scored on a 1-yard run that made it 21-6 fewer than 2 minutes later and Jarrod Barnes returned a punt 64 yards for a touchdown to give Central Arkansas a 28-6 lead with 10:18 left in the third quarter. Will McElvain passed for two touchdowns, Trevor Allen ran for a pair and Northern Iowa defeated Western Illinois 38-7 in a regular-season finale on Sunday. McElvain, 10-of-18 passing for 154 yards, threw 61 yards to Logan Wolf and 36 to Jaylin James for touchdowns. Allen, who finished with 94 yards on 24 carries, had short touchdown runs to complete 15- and 16-play drives for the Panthers (8-4, 6-2 Missouri Valley Football Conference), who have won all six of their home games in the regular season. Will McElvain threw three touchdown passes, the Northern Iowa defense came up with three interceptions and the Panthers defeated Illinois State 27-10 on Saturday in a Missouri Valley Conference matchup of Top 10 teams. McElvain's 16-yard strike to Suni L ane in the final minute of the first half put the Panthers (6-3, 4-1) on top 14-7. The duo hooked up for a 27-yard score with 11 minutes to play for a 21-10 lead. Matthew Cook finished the next two drives, setup by Xavior Williams' fumble recovery and a Christian Jegen interception, both deep in ISU territory, with field goals. McElvain was 14 of 28 for 189 yards with an interception. Illinois State (6-3, 3-2) had only 63 yards of offense in the second half, only scoring on a field goal that was set up by a fumble recovery at the Northern Iowa 30. Will McElvain threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as Northern Iowa scored 29-unanswered points on its way to a 29-6 win over Missouri State on Saturday. McElvain had 238 yards passing for the Panthers (5-3, 3-1 Missouri Valley Football Conferenc e). Isaiah Weston had 157 yards and two touchdowns receiving. Matthew Cook kicked three field goals. Cook booted a pair of field goals in the second quarter, from 49 and 22 yards, to give Northern Iowa a 6-0 lead. Later, Austin Evans recovered a Missouri State (1-6, 1-3) fumble six yards shy of the Bears end zone, leading to McElvain's touchdown run two plays later. McElvain followed that with a 46-yard scoring throw to Weston for a 19-0 lead at halftime. Cook's 38-yard field goal and McElvain's 70-yard touchdown pass to Weston late in the third quarter stretched it to 29-0 before the Bears finally scored on a 17-yard touchdown throw from Peyton Huslig to Antwan Woods. Redshirt freshman Will McElvain threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Weston, and Trevor Allen and Tyler Hoosman ran for scores, as Northern Iowa held off Youngstown State 21-14 in a Missouri Valley Football Conference opener between two ranked teams on Saturday. McElvain staked the Panthers (3-2), ranked 13th in the FCS Coaches poll, to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when he capped an eight-play, 80-yard drive with his TD toss to Weston. McElvain directed an eight-play, 79-yard drive - ended by All en's 10-yard TD run - to push Northern Iowa's lead to 14-0 with 5:07 left in the second quarter. On the ensuing possession for the 17th-ranked Penguins (4-1), Nathan Mays needed just one play - a 75-yard scoring strike to Jermiah Braswell - to halve the lead at 14-7. But the Panthers took the kickoff and marched 75 yards, with Hoosman running it in from the 15-yard line for a 21-7 halftime lead.The only scoring in the second half came on Youngstown State's opening drive of the third quarter. Mays completed all four of his passes in an eight-play, 75-yard drive, accounting for 56 yards with the last 14 coming on a scoring toss to Kendric Mallory that pulled the Penguins within 21-14. Omar Brown also had an interception for the FCS No. 8 Panthers (2-1) and Elerson Smith collected three sacks including one on Idaho State's final possession.
