Texas has added another target to its passing game. Former Georgia receiver Adonai Mitchell announced Friday night that he will transfer to Texas. The Longhorns confirmed the signing later in the night. Over two years at Georgia, Mitchell won two nationa l championships. He averaged 14.7 yards on his 38 receptions. "New home, same mission," Mitchell tweeted. This past season, Mitchell appeared in six games and scored in both of Georgia's playoff games. As a freshman, he started 12 times and caught the go -ahead touchdown against Alabama in the national championship game. The 6-foot-4, 190-pounder was rated as a four-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting class. After the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian opined that it "kind of felt like all year we were searching for a third wideout." That shouldn't be a problem for Texas in 2023. Mitchell joins a receiving corps that's set to retain both Xavier Worthy and Jordan Whittington, who combined for 110 receptions, 1,412 receiving yards a nd 10 touchdowns. - Austin American Statesman

Say so long to Adonai Mitchell. Georgia's popular wide receiver known as "A.D." entered his name into the transfer portal Wednesday, the last day of the NCAA's newly adopted, 45-day transfer period, according to an unattributed report by DawgsHQ.com. Mit chell's destination is unknown, but speculation is that he will land either at Texas or USC. A native of Missouri City, Texas, Mitchell graduated from Cane Ridge High in Nashville, Tenn., in 2021. Neither Mitchell nor his high school coach could be reach ed for comment Wednesday. Mitchell was considered the Bulldogs' top receiver entering the 2022 season. However, he played in only six games because of a high-ankle sprain sustained on the first play of Georgia's second game. However, with touchdown receptions in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and the College Football Playoff Championship game, Mitchell is thought to be the first player to catch a touchdown pass in every CFP game in which he played. He leaves UGA 4-for-4 on that front. Wednesday repres ented the end of the NCAA's transfer period. Beginning Dec. 5, there is a 45-day window adopted by a membership vote last summer that establishes beginning and end dates to the period in which players can explore the prospect of transferring to another s chool. The transfer portal is a list serve maintained by the NCAA that is accessible to member schools. There's another window that starts May 1 and lasts 15 days. It was designed for players who may seek a change following spring practice. - Atlanta Jou rnal Constitution

Georgia coach Kirby Smart said on Monday that he was optimistic that Adonai Mitchell could play in Saturday's noon kickoff at South Carolina, but the sophomore wide receiver did not practice on Monday because of a left ankle injury suffered against Samfo rd. Smart added that receiver Arian Smith, who had surgery in the offseason for a high ankle sprain, was recovering and looking healthier, but a timetable has not been set for his return. - The Athletic

He made a splash with seven catches for 105 yards and a touchdown in Georgia's spring game. With the Bulldogs facing questions at receiver, he could get a real shot early because some ahead of him on the depth chart are nursing injuries. LSU transfer Ari k Gilbert, a former tight end, is not currently with the team. - AP College Football
