Franklin saw the most action of Oregon's three freshman wide outs last season and had 18 catches for 209 yards and two touchdowns. Most importantly, he's added weight to his frame. Though UO didn't release updated measurements during the spring, Franklin said he's up to 180 pounds and is aiming to be closer to 190 in the fall. "I think Troy would tell you that he's got to continue to look to put on weight, but that's going to be something that's going to be important for him moving forward and his progr ess as a player," Oregon coach Dan Lanning said. "I'm looking for him to continue to do that, but he has to be aware of his nutrition has to have a plan and obviously, we're going to help set that for him." Franklin had four catches for 36 yards and a to uchdown during the spring game while on the Green team with Ty Thompson at quarterback. The last time Oregon had 60 or more passes of 20-plus yards was 2014, when it led the Pac-12 and ranked third nationally with 73. It is absolutely vital for Franklin to become a consistent threat to blow the top off the coverage for Oregon to get close to that after posting just 42 such plays last season. - The Oregonian

One of Oregon's heralded freshmen receivers earned a starting job to open the season. Troy Franklin will start at the X receiver spot for the No. 11 Ducks against Fresno State on Saturday (11 a.m., Pac-12 Network). Franklin beat out Isaah Crocker and Dev on Williams, who was limited for a significant amount of fall camp, for the job. "Troy has done a great job proving himself as a guy that we feel can win football games here," Oregon coach Mario Cristobal said. "(He's) practicing at a high level. Got her e in January, putting the right kind of investment in the weight room, in his body, his development physically and mentally, and made a lot of plays in practice. "Devon is working through some things, was limited earlier in camp and is working to - he's still going to be a contributor and I'm sure he'll work his way to a more prominent role and that's what we expect of him." One of Oregon's mid-year enrollees, Franklin led the Ducks with four receptions for 93 yards in the spring game and continued perf orming at a high level in camp. He was among the players of the day after multiple practices. - The Oregonian

Arrived in time for spring practice with the intention of changing the run-first culture for which the Ducks are known, and began making inroads on that quest right away. Had four catches for 93 yards in the spring game, and was cited by coach Mario Cris tobal for looking like a veteran by the time fall camp opened. At 6-foot-2 and 170 pounds, he appears to be in line for a starting spot on the outside on a team loaded with freshmen talent. - AP College Football
