2023 BIG SKY FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Alex Gubner, DL, Montana,...Gubner was named Defensive Player of the Year after controlling the line of scrimmage for a dominant Montana defense all season. Gubner finished the year with 30 tackles, eig ht for loss, and three sacks. The Griz defense led the league in points allowed, giving up just 14.5 per game to rank third overall in the FCS. Gubner is the first Grizzly to win Defensive Player of the Year since Dante Olson won in 2019. Gubner is now a three-time all-conference honoree and a two-time first-team selection. In his 49 games as a starter for the Grizzlies he's totaled 157 tackles, 10.5 sacks, and 27 TFLs - currently the 17th-most in program history. 2022 ALL-BIG SKY FIRST TEAM: DT Alex Gubner (UM),...Junior tackle Alex Gubner also earned first-team All-Big Sky honors after being named to the second team as a sophomore. He's totaled Montana's third-most sacks this season with 3.5 and fourth-most TFLs with 6.5. Gubner is the fourth Grizzly defender to earn a place on the first team and has been a key player in Montana's stifling defense this season. The Griz enter the postseason ranked in the top 10 nationally in six different defensive categories, i ncluding holding the fourth-most team TFLs in the FCS and the No. 8 scoring defense. - Montana Football
