The Troy Trojans defense is one of the most accomplished and talented defenses in the Sun Belt Conference and a big part of the veteran group's success can be attributed to sophomore Javon Solomon and junior Richard Jibunor. Solomon and Jibunor combined to total 27 tackles-for-loss and 19 sacks in 2021 but the unique thing about that is the pair did it primarily sharing snaps. Jibunor and Solomon both play the "bandit" position in Troy's defense, which is hybrid of a defensive end and outside linebacker who must be able to drop back into coverage on certain downs and put his hand in the dirt and play on the line of scrimmage at other times.Solomon grew up in Tallahassee, Fla. and was a star player for Godby High School, while Jibunor grew up in Nigeria before moving to Georgia. The 6-foot-3-inch, 233-pound pass rusher originally started his college career at Auburn before transferring to Troy in 2019. In 2020 both Solomon and Jibunor became top players in the Sun Belt. Solomon earned All-Sun Be lt honorable mention and Jibunor was selected to the All-Sun Belt third team as the pair made a habit of harassing opposing quarterbacks and living in the opponent's backfield. Both Jibunor and Solomon earned All-Sun Belt honors again in 2021 and the pas s rushers' relationship off the field as been just as strong as the bond on the field. - Troy Messenger

Recently, Troy's very own Jones Medical Supply announced that it had signed name, image and likeness (NIL) deals with Troy football players Scott Taylor Renfroe and Carlton Martial. Jones Medical Supply President Jason Jones is a staunch supporter of Tro jan athletics and Jones Medical Supply - which has locations in Troy and Greenville - is already a partner with Troy University as the athletic department's official oxygen supplier. Jones also wanted to support the athletes."We're all about partn ering with Troy Athletics in any way we can, that's first and foremost," Jones said. "No. 2, if we can help a student-athlete legally we want to be involved with that. "Those are the two biggest things for us and just from a marketing standpoint it works . We just had an interview with a national publication and that led to it being ran in another national publication and now I'm talking to you guys about it. These are things, as a businessman, you couldn't ask for anything better." NIL was passed in 202 1 by the NCAA to allow athletes to sign sponsorship deals and make money off their name, image and likeness as college athletes. Athletes all over the country have become spokespeople for brands, sold their likeness for merchandise and many other marketi ng opportunities.
