Aaron Allen, Alcorn State, Player News

NOV 2 CONFERENCE USA OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: UAB QB Aaron Allen came off the bench to lead Louisiana Tech to a 37-34 comeback victory over UAB in double overtime, completing 18-of-26 passes for a career-high 191 yards and had two touchdown passes with zero interceptions. With the Bulldogs trailing 31-17 heading into the fourth quarter, Allen connected with redshirt junior WR Jawaun Johnson for a 30-yard touchdown on the first play of the period to make it a one possession game. With UAB leading 31-24 with 2:05 to go in the fourth, Allen lead the Bulldogs on a 13-play, 90-yard drive down the field.

Allen ended the drive with a 24-yard touchdown pass to senior WR Adrian Hardy which tied the game at 31-31 with 10 seconds left in regulation. Allen remained at quarterback through both overtime periods where he helped set up K Jacob Barnes for a 36-yard and a 35-yard field goal to secure the win. With Allen winning the award this week and Bulldogs graduate transfer Luke Anthony winning the Sept. 28 award, LA Tech is the first school in league history to have two different quarterbacks earn C-USA Offensive player of the Week honors in the same season. - Conference USA Football

Aaron Allen threw a pair of fourth-quarter touchdown passes, Jacob Barnes made a 35-yard field goal in the second overtime and Louisiana Tech beat UAB 37-34 on Saturday night. UAB (4-3, 2-1 Conference USA) led 31-17 at the end of the third quarter. Allen threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Jawaun Johnson to open the fourth, and a 24-yard score to Adrian Hardy with 10 seconds left to force overtime. The teams traded field goals in the first overtime. Bee Jay Williamson, who also had two interceptions for Louisiana Tech (4-3, 3-2), forced a Spencer Brown fumble in the second OT that set up Barnes' game-winning kick. Allen was 18-of-26 passing for 191 yards. Luke Anthony was 11 of 20 for 141 yards passing with a touchdown. Hardy caught two touchdown passes and finished with seven receptions for 101 yards. Brown and DeWayne McBride each had two touchdown runs for UAB. Brown finished with 140 yards, and McBride had 133, including a 75-yard scoring run. Williamson intercepted a Bryson Lucero pass and then lateraled to Khalil Ladler, who ran 81 yards untouched along the sideline and into the end zone, giving the Bulldogs a 10-0 lead. - AP College Football

Louisiana Tech had one of Conference USA's best seasons in 2019, based on a balanced attack that featured power and a quick-strike ability. If not for a two-game slide that included player suspensions, the Bulldogs likely would have won Conference USA's West Division. While coach Skip Holtz still has plenty of talent in Ruston, there are some definite needs if the Bulldogs want to again reach the 10-win plateau. Most notably, Louisiana Tech has to find a quarterback after the graduation of J'Mar Smith. Smith threw for 2,977 yards and 18 touchdowns with only five interceptions last season and spread the ball around well with four receivers having 40 catches or more. His replacement likely will be either Aaron Allen or Westin Elliott, each of whom saw action in six games last season. Allen got the starting nod when Smith got suspended prior to the Marshall game. He went 19 of 32 for 159 yards against the Thundering Herd in a 31-10 loss. - Charleston Gazette
