  01/12/23 - WR Rome OdunzerJr/2024, Washington, 6-3, 212 (DS#3 WR) + More +

Rome Odunze was the last one left. On Thursday, the sophomore wide receiver followed eight teammates - quarterback Michael Penix Jr., wide receiver Jalen McMillan, edges Bralen Trice and Zion Tupuola-Fetui, left tackle Troy Fautanu, defensive tackle Tuli Letuligasenoa, running back Richard Newton and tight end Devin Culp - in announcing a return to Washington in 2023.

The 6-foot-3, 201-pound wideout earned first-team All-Pac-12 honors in his third season in Seattle - compiling 75 catches, 1,145 receiving yards, 15.3 yards per reception and eight total touchdowns in 12 games. Odunze's career includes 122 catches, 1,632 yards and 12 touchdowns in 25 career games. - The Seattle Times

While balloons fell and fireworks popped inside the Alamodome, Rome Odunze stood atop a ladder and led the Husky marching band. The third-year sophomore wide receiver waved both arms as his classmates played, "Tequila." But was it also Odunze's swan song in San Antonio? The 6-foot-3, 201-pound wideout and first-team All-Pac-12 performer - who contributed five catches for 57 yards in No. 12 Washington's 27-20 win over No. 20 Texas - has yet to announce whether he'll declare for the 2023 NFL draft.

On Thursday, Odunze said only that "I don't know what I'm doing. It should be coming out soon here. I'm closing in on a decision. It should be coming soon." A growing club of contributors - quarterback Michael Penix Jr., wide receiver Jalen McMillan, left tackle Troy Fautanu, edges Bralen Trice and Zion Tupuola-Fetui, and defensive tackle Tuli Letuligasenoa - have each announced they're returning in 2023. Fifth-year running back Richard Newton and tight end Devin Culp joined that list Thursday as well. Odunze - who compiled 75 catches, 1,145 receiving yards, 15.3 yards per reception and eight touchdowns in 12 games this fall - is the final domino to fall. Perhaps his song will have a sequel. - Seattle Times

2022 ALL-PAC-12 CONFERENCE FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM: WR Rome Odunze, So., Washington,...Odunze, a sophomore from Las Vegas, Nev., was a big part of that passing offense. He set a school record with four straight 100-yard receiving games and finished the year with six 100-yard games, 71 catches, 1,088 yards and seven touchdowns. - Washington Football

Peyton Henry made a 22-yard field goal with 8 seconds left to cap a 92-yard scoring driving, and Washington held off No. 24 Oregon State 24-21 on Friday night to preserve its hopes in the Pac-12 championship game race. The Huskies took over at their own 3 with 4:33 left. Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. led a march downfield against the Beavers' stingy defense. Penix was 9 of 13 for 66 yards on the drive. His push pass to Giles Jackson for 12 yards got the Huskies to the Oregon State 2. After a pair of incompletions, The Huskies set up for the short field goal and Henry delivered the winning kick. Washington (7-2, 4-2 Pac-12) won its third straight and kept alive its slim hopes of finding a spot in Las Vegas in the conference title game. Penix, the nation's leader in passing, was 30 of 52 for 298 yards and a 24-yard touchdown pass on third-and-goal to Jack Westover in the third quarter.

Wayne Taulapapa ran for two touchdowns for Washington, the second coming early in the fourth quarter to tie the score at 21-21. Rome Odunze had seven receptions for 102 yards. The game wasn't without some typical late-night Pac-12 wackiness. Blustery winds affected the passing and kicking game all night and the game was stopped for 25 minutes early in the fourth quarter after partial power outage took down some of the stadium lights illuminating the field. Deshaun Fenwick rushed for a pair of touchdowns and linebacker Easton Mascarenas-Arnold returned an interception 37 yards for a score for Oregon State, which was playing its first game ranked in The AP Top 25 since the 2013 season opener. But the Beavers (6-3, 3-3) will lament two missed opportunities in the first half going for it on fourth downs deep in Washington's end of the field and failing to convert. The windy, blustery conditions made kicking an adventure all night, but failing to get points on those drives came back to bite Oregon State. - Rice/AP College Football

  08/11/22 - WR Rome OdunzerJr/2024, Washington, 6-3, 212 (DS#3 WR) + More +

In UW's fifth practice of preseason camp, WR Rome Odunze, 6-3, 201, was unsurprisingly active - piling up chunk plays on passes from multiple quarterbacks. The highlight was a 27-yard touchdown that capped a 58-yard drive in a two-minute drill, in which junior quarterback Michael Penix Jr. dropped a floating deep ball to Odunze - who had slipped past redshirt freshman cornerback Davon Banks. The sophomore wide receiver from Las Vegas also contorted along the left sideline to haul in a pass from quarterback Sam Huard for a 30-yard gain, despite the tight coverage of corner Mishael Powell. - Seattle Times
