2022 WALTER CAMP SECOND TEAM ALL-AMERICAN: DB Quinyon Mitchell, Toledo,...Mitchell is the nation's leader in passes defended with 25 (five interceptions, 20 pass breakups). His 20 breakups is the all-time Toledo record, breaking mark of 16 set by current San Francisco 49er Samuel Womack last year. He had three pass breakups in Toledo's 17-7 win over Ohio in the MAC Championship Game on Dec. 3. Earlier this season, Mitchell was named the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week by the FWAA f or his record-breaking performance vs. Northern Illinois on Oct. 8. Mitchell grabbed four interceptions against NIU, returning two for touchdowns in the 52-32 win in DeKalb.He collected three interceptions in the first half, the first of which he returned for a 25-yard pick six to put Toledo ahead 14-0 in the first quarter. He also returned his second interception for a touchdown, and his third pick came in the final seconds of the second quarter in NIU's end zone. Mitchell's final interception o f the game came on Northern Illinois' opening drive of the second half. The four interceptions were the first four of Mitchell's career, tied the school record set back in 1950, and was the first time a Rocket had two pick sixes in one game. The Toledo standard of four interceptions in a game was set by Jerry Palmer vs. Western Reserve in 1950. Mitchell is the only FBS player since 2000 with four INTs and two pick-sixes in a game. The NCAA record for interceptions is five, held by four players, most re cently Dan Rebsch of Miami (Ohio) vs. Western Michigan in 1972. - Toledo Football

OCT 10 MAC WEST DIVISION DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Quinyon Mitchell, Toledo, CB, Sophomore, Williston, Fla-Williston,...Mitchell snagged four interceptions, two for first-half touchdowns of 25 and 20 yards, tying the school record for interceptions a nd becoming the first Rocket ever to grab two pick-sixes in one game. The four interceptions were also the first four picks of his career. It was Toledo's first interception return for a touchdown since Chris McDonald's pick-six vs. Notre Dame last year. The Toledo record of four interceptions in a game was set by Jerry Palmer vs. Western Reserve in 1950. The MAC record is five interceptions by Dan Rebsch of Miami in a game vs. WMU in 1972. - MAC Football

Toledo's Quinyon Mitchell became the first FBS player since 2006 to intercept four passes in a game, according to Sportradar. He ran back two of them for touchdowns in the Rockets' 52-32 win at Northern Illinois. Mitchell entered the game with no interce ptions in 24 career games. All four occurred within NIU's first seven possessions. He had three in the first half, returning the first one 20 yards for a touchdown and the second one 25 for a score. His third interception was in the end zone as NIU threa tened to score late in the half, and he picked off Ethan Hampton again on the Huskies' first series of the third quarter. The previous player with four interceptions was Middle Tennessee State's Damon Nickson, who did it in 2006 against Louisiana. - AP C ollege Football
