2022 LOU GROZA AWARD FINALIST (OUTSTANDING KICKER): Joshua Karty, Stanford,...Following a perfect 18-for-18 season on field goals, Stanford junior kicker Joshua Karty was named one of three finalists for the 2022 Lou Groza Award on Tuesday morning. The a ward is presented annually to the Collegiate Place-Kicker of the Year by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission and the Orange Bowl. Karty is joined by NC State's Christopher Dunn and Michigan's Jake Moody as the three finalists. Karty, a native of Burl ington, N.C., went 18-of-18 on the year on field goal attempts, with 13 of those makes from 40-or-more yards. Karty was the only qualified kicker nationally with no misses on the year, and the only kicker with 13 makes of 40+ yards this season.Dat ing back to 1996, Karty is just the fourth kicker with at least 18 makes to have a perfect season, and just the third kicker with 10+ makes from 40-or-more yards without a miss. He set the school record with a 61-yard field goal at Cal, and also had make s of 54 yards (vs. BYU) and 53 yards (at Oregon). No kicker nationally had more than three 50+-yard field goals with no misses. Karty's 61-yarder was five yards further than any other kicker this season. Karty was named Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week four times in 2022 and a Lou Groza Award Star of the Week twice. For his career, Karty is 51-for-52 on PATs and 28-for-34 on field goals. Joshua Karty's 61-yard field goal for Stanford against California was the longest in the nation this season and enhanced his resume for the Lou Groza Award. Karty's field goal was his second of the game and came on the last play of a 27-20 loss. The Groz a Award semifinalist is 16 for 16 on field goals this season and 24 of 29 for his career. His only misses in two years as the Cardinal kicker have been from 49 yards and longer. Arkansas State's Dominic Zvada kicked a 56-yarder against Texas State on Sat urday that is the nation's second-longest. - AP College Football

Joshua Karty kicked five field goals, lifting Stanford to a come-from-behind, 15-14 win over Arizona State on Saturday afternoon. Karty's five field goals tied the all-time single-game record for the Cardinal (3-4, 1-4 Pac-12), who snapped a school-recor d 10-game conference losing streak. Stanford had not won a game against a Pac-12 opponent since it beat Oregon 31-24 on Oct. 2, 2021. The decisive field goal came with 6:28 remaining in the fourth quarter. Karty converted from 47 yards, matching his seco nd-longest attempt of the season. Named the Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week twice in the last three games, Karty has not missed a kick this season, making all 12 of his field goal attempts. The Sun Devils (2-5, 1-3) have not won at Stanford Stadi um since 2007, dropping four straight on the road to the Cardinal in that span.Arizona State's Emory Jones was 15 of 25 passing but Stanford's pass defense, which entered Saturday ranked second in the conference surrendering 212.3 yards per game, held Arizona State to 227 receiving yards. The Sun Devils led 14-6 after Elijhah Badger caught a 39-yard touchdown pass a minute into the second quarter. Badger made six catches for a career-best 118 yards. Stanford had not allowed its opponent to score in the first quarter in its last two games against Oregon State and Notre Dame. But the Sun Devils ended the streak when Xazavian Valladay running for a 15-yard touchdown.
