2023 ALL-BIG TEN HONORABLE MENTION: Tanor Bortolini,...Bortolini transitioned to center in 2023, sliding over from the guard spot that he occupied next to Joe Tippmann (N.Y. Jets) in 2022. Bortolini started every game for the Badgers, leading the offensi ve line unit and offense with quarterbacks Tanner Mordecai and Braedyn Locke. According to PFF, Bortolini logged an 80.8 pass blocking grade this season, the third-best clip in the Big Ten. He allowed only one sack over 477 pressure opportunities as the Badgers' centerpiece of the offensive front. Bortolini earned the first Outland Trophy National Player of the Week award after helping the Badger backs to a dominating performance vs. Buffalo in week one. Wisconsin offensive line coach Bob Bostad hasn't forgotten the 2009 season when Wisconsin, because of injuries and illness, had to use three centers. That memory, as well as the recent departure of Cormac Sampson, led Bostad to make an intriguing move be fore UW opened preseason camp Wednesday. Tanor Bortolini, who has played center, guard and tackle and is arguably UW's most versatile offensive lineman, is working as the No. 2 center behind Joe Tippmann. "You've got to have guys at that spot," Bostad sa id of the critical center position. "You just don't plug (someone) in there. We have to build depth and quality there. He is going to be quality there. I can see that. We need to continue to do that with the loss of (Cormac). We are really in a race now. " So, at least for now, Bortolini will back up Tippmann rather than vie to start at one of the guard spots. - Journal Sentinal
