Levi Williams ran for 200 yards and four touchdowns and passed for 127 yards and another touchdown to lead Wyoming to a 52-38 win over Kent State on Tuesday in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Williams, who set a career-best single-game rushing performance, tied the Potato Bowl record for most rushing touchdowns and was named the game's MVP. "He's very gifted and can run like the wind," Wyoming coach Craig Bohl said. "And obviously, it's great to see him make those plays he's very capable of making." Kent State (7-7), playing in its fifth bowl game in school history, raced out to a 17-7 lead and held a 24-21 advantage at halftime, but the Golden Flashes couldn't hold up against Wyoming's relentless rushing attack. "That's not the outcome we were looking for," Kent State coach Sean Lewis said. "Areas that hampered us all year long hurt us today...But I'm eager and excited to get back to work and build a program that Kent State can be proud of." Wyoming (7-6) scored 21 consecutive points to start the second half, including scoring runs of 27 and 80 yards by Williams, to build a 42-24 lead that proved to be too much for Kent State to overcome. Wyoming senior linebacker Chad Muma and Butkus Award finalist didn't disappoint in his final college game, leading the Cowboys on defense with 13 tackles and a half sack. - Wyoming/AP College Football

Williams was 12-of-15 passing for 224 yards with an interception and Sven finished with 15 carries for 169 yards. Xazavian Valladay added 145 yards rushing for Wyoming (6-5, 2-5 Mountain West Conference) and Cameron Stone scored on a 99-yard kickoff return. Joshua Cobbs caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from Williams with 6:50 left in the second quarter and, after the Cowboys defense forced Utah State into its second consecutive three-and-out, John Hoyland kicked a 28-yard field goal to give Wyoming a 24-14 lead at halftime. Logan Bonner threw two touchdown pass for Utah State (8-3, 5-2) and Calvin Tyler Jr. had 109 yards rushing. - AP College Football

Levi Williams threw for two touchdowns, Titus Swen led Wyoming's crushing rushing attack with 166 yards and the Cowboys beat Colorado State 31-17 on Saturday to snap a four-game losing streak. Williams only had 92 yards passing but threw a pair of second-half touchdowns, including a 15-yarder to Isaiah Neyor that gave the Cowboys a 30-10 lead midway through the fourth quarter and sent them on their way to their first Mountain West Conference win this season.

Williams added 116 yards on the ground including a 43-yard touchdown and Xazavian Valladay scored a touchdown and ran for 76 yards for 2,971 in his career to move into second place all-time at Wyoming. The Cowboys had 385 yards on the ground and outgained the Rams 477-357 in total yards. Todd Centeio threw two touchdown passes to Dante Wright for the Rams (3-6, 2-3) but was also intercepted twice. Wyoming's win came in the 113th Border War, a series that dates to 1899, both schools' longest rivalry. - AP College Football

Sean Chambers isn't the only Wyoming quarterback that's worked himself back from injury. Levi Williams took over the reins of the offense once Chambers went down with yet another leg injury three plays into UW's abbreviated season last fall, but Williams also dealt with his share of pain before it was over. The redshirt freshman started the final five games but wasn't able to finish them all because of a shoulder injury that, after the final couple of games, kept Williams from lifting his throwing arm above 90 degrees until the middle of the following week, UW coach Craig Bohl said. "It wasn't a shoulder separation, but it was certainly some significant irritation in there," Bohl added. Williams initially gave UW's much-maligned passing game a boost, throwing for 227 yards and a touchdown against Nevada and a career-high 321 yards two weeks later against Colorado State. But he completed just 7 of 25 passes in UW's final two games after sustaining the injury late against New Mexico and was replaced by true freshman Gavin Beerup in each one. "Within our passing tree, we really had to scale some things back," Bohl said. "We were really way off, and what that forced us to do was become way too one-dimensional. When you're completing the ball right around 46%, it's hard to have a lot of confidence in your passing game." - Casper Star-Tribune

As Wyoming awaits final word on exactly what the healing process for one quarterback will require, another is preparing for his first shot as the primary option behind center. Levi Williams is stepping into the starting role in place of Sean Chambers, a spot on the depth chart the redshirt freshman figures to hold for a while if not for the rest of the season following yet another injury to Chambers. Williams isn't completely green, having played in three games with one start last season, but there's plenty of room for improvement for the offense and its new full-time signal caller after the Cowboys struggled to muster much of anything before exploding for 25 points in the final 15 minutes of regulation in Saturday's 37-34 overtime loss at Nevada. "We thought he did a good job," UW coach Craig Bohl said of Williams. "However, there were some plays he left out there on the field. He's going to need to improve, and we think that he can. This week, practice will be important."

The plan for the Cowboys this season was always to play Chambers and Williams in some fashion, and UW went into its opener with the first half scripted for both quarterbacks. But that went out the window just three plays in when Chambers was tackled underneath the weight of Nevada defensive tackle Dom Peterson, causing a high ankle sprain and a fracture of Chambers' left fibula. "Obviously it was a surprise," Williams said. "I need to be ready when my number is called. That's a big thing Coach Bohl preaches on, and I felt like I was. I just didn't feel like I played my best, especially the first half. Left a lot of things out on the table." - Casper Star-Tribune
