Judge Culpepper, Toledo, Player News
|
With an All-American lineage and three seasons of Big Ten football to his name, Judge Culpepper might have felt too cool for school when he transferred to Toledo last year. But that's not him. For one, the senior defensive tackle is a good guy who likes school. (The philosophy major got straight A's in high school.) For another, he would have had no room to talk. When he arrived from Penn State, he knew well that - never mind the difference in recruiting stars - his new teammates on the Toledo defensive line could hold their own against anybody. "There was really very little drop-off, if any at all, between the team I used to play for and the team I'm on now," said Culpepper, whose father, Brad, was an All-American defensive tackle at Florida and playe d nine years in the NFL. And that was last season. Now? While Culpepper would never say it, I will: There probably is a difference between his new team and his old one this year. Toledo's defensive line - featuring a pair of two-time all-conference selec tions with serious NFL potential (end Jamal Hines and tackle Desjuan Johnson) and all four starters back - could be better. - Toledo Blade
