Ailym Ford rushed for 130 yards and two touchdowns to lead Chattanooga to a 31-21 victory over The Citadel on Saturday. Ford put Chattanooga (7-2, 5-1 Southern Conference) on top for good early in the second quarter when he capped a seven-play, 57-yard d rive with a 2-yard touchdown run to give the Mocs a 10-7 lead. Ford's 6-yard scoring run early in the third quarter made it 17-7, Preston Hutchinson connected with freshman Camden Overton for a 36-yard touchdown and the Mocs led 24-7 heading to the final period. Ford carried 29 times for Chattanooga and he also caught three passes for a team-high 67 yards. Hutchinson completed 12 of 20 passes for 202 yards with one interception. Peyton Derrick totaled 118 yards on 11-of-13 passing for The Citadel (2-7, 2-5) with two touchdowns and an interception. Freshman Christian Hilton and Cooper Wallace had the touchdown catches. OCT 24 STATS FEDEX GROUND FCS NATIONAL TEAM OF THE WEEK: Chattanooga (41-21 win over Mercer),...Chattanooga won one of the season's bigger SoCon games by posting a 6-0 turnover advantage against a Mercer squad that entered with a plus-nine ratio. Kameron Brown had a pair of interceptions, including a 53-yard pick-six just over three minutes into the game. Preston Hutchinson passed for 291 yards and three touchdowns, while Ailym Ford surpassed 3,000 career rushing yards with 123 yards and a TD. The Mocs (6-1, 4-0) share first place with Samford. Ailym Ford ran for two of Chattanooga's three fourth quarter touchdowns to give the Mocs a 24-16 victory over East Tennessee State on Saturday. East Tennessee State led 13-3 heading into the fourth quarter. Ford scored on a 9-yard touchdown run with 14:2 2 remaining. Preston Hutchinson tossed a 11-yard TD pass to James Mayes about four minutes later that gave 10th-ranked Chattanooga (4-1, 2-0 Southern Conference) the lead for good. Tyler Keltner's 31-yard field goal pulled ETSU (2-3, 0-3) to 17-16 with 7 :10 remaining before Ford sealed it with his 1-yard scoring run that capped a 12-play, 75-yard drive for the Mocs. Ford carried 28 times for 101 yards. Jacob Saylors had 93 yards rushing on 22 carries for the Buccaneers. Keltner made three of his four fi eld goal attempts. - AP College Football

Ailym Ford and Preston Hutchinson each ran for a pair of touchdowns and Chattanooga defeated Eastern Illinois 38-20 on Saturday night. Hutchinson threw for 278 yards, including a 51-yard touchdown to Javin Whatley. EIU had a 10-7 lead after Jonah O'Brien 's 31-yard scoring toss to Nile Hill in the final minute of the third quarter but Ford's 4-yard score put the Mocs (2-0), ranked 10th in the FCS coaches poll, in front for good. Ford's other TD run of 21 yards made it 27-13 midway through the third quart er. An Andre Southard field goal and Hutchinson's 14-yard run in the fourth quarter gave the Mocs a cushion. Ailym Ford rushed for 156 yards and two touchdowns, Preston Hutchinson passed for 171 yards and a score, and Chattanooga rolled past Wofford 31-0 on Saturday in a season opener for both teams. Chattanooga took control in the first half with a rushing tou chdown, passing score, pick-6 and a field goal. Ford gave Chattanooga a 31-0 lead late in the third quarter when he broke a tackle up the middle, cut to the right and outraced a defender for an 86-yard score. Ford also opened the scoring in the first qua rter with a 3-yard run. Rueben Lowery III had the pick-6 in his first game as a starter for Chattanooga. Wofford had 230 total yards and three turnovers. The Terriers had a third-and-goal from the 4 with 5:14 left in the third quarter, but a bad snap res ulted in Chattanooga's second fumble recovery. Strange and Maxwell were joined by offensive lineman McClendon Curtis, running back Ailym Ford and safeties Brandon Dowdell and Jerrell Lawson as consensus first team selections. Defensive lineman Ben Brewton joined them on the coaches side, while Ty Boeck was on the media side. The seven first teamers on both teams led the league. Ailym Ford ran for 111 yards and a touchdown and Jerrell Lawson picked off a Jaylen Gipson pass and returned it 36 yards for a score as Chattanooga cruised to a 20-0 victory over North Alabama in nonconference play on Saturday. Aaron Sears' staked the Mo cs (1-1) to a 3-0 lead with a 26-yard field goal in the first quarter. Ford scored his TD from a yard out to stretch Chattanooga's advantage to 10-0 at the 10:44 mark of the second quarter. Lawson's pick-6 came with just 42 seconds left in the half. The only scoring after intermission was Sears' 38-yard field goal in the final quarter. The Mocs did most of their damage on the ground, piling up 198 yards on 44 attempts. Cole Copeland was 10-of-22 passing for 98 yards with two interceptions. The Lions (0- 2) were held to just 90 yards of offense and 10 first downs. North Alabama ran 25 times for only 38 yards. 2019 SOUTHERN CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Ailym Ford, RB, Chattanooga,...Ford led the Mocs with 1,081 rushing yards this season. He was nine yards shy of the school freshman record set by Mike Smith in 1977 before being sidelined with an i njury on Nov. 9 at Samford. He did not play in the final two games of the year. Ford entered the year as the No. 3 ball carrier on the Mocs' depth chart, but quickly moved his way into a more prominent role in the offense. Six times he ran for over 100 y ards, including five in a row late in the season. His 108.1 rushing yards per game led all freshmen in the FCS, were second in the SoCon and No. 11 in the nation overall. He also tied for the team lead with nine rushing touchdowns. Terrell Robinson placed 21st in the voting in 2011, Jacob Hu esman was fourth in 2012 and Lucas Webb was 16th in 2014. Ford currently leads all freshmen at the FCS and FBS levels with 119.1 rushing yards per game. He is second in the SoCon with 1,072 yards and broke the Mocs' freshman mark with nine rushing touch downs. With three games left on the schedule, Ford has a chance to break many of the Mocs overall rushing marks. Victor Ulmo gave Chattanooga the lead on a 30-yard field goal with 14 seconds left and the Mocs stayed undefeated in Southern Conference play with a 16-13 win over East Tennessee State. Ulmo missed his first three field goal attempts and an extra point a ttempt. Two of his missed field goals came in the fourth quarter when they would have broken the 13-all tie for the Mocs (4-3, 3-0). Ailym Ford rushed 31 times for 200 yards and two TDs for Chattanooga.Ford opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 6-yard run and tied it at 13-all with a 14-yard run in the third. Ulmo missed the extra point on the second touchdown. The Buccaneers (2-5, 0-4) scored all their points in the second quarter. Will Huzzie connected with Trey Mitchell for a 32-yard pass and Tyler Keltner kicked field goals from 29 and 43 yards to make it 13-7.
