Jarrian Jones, Florida State, Player News

The Jarrian Jones saga keeps unfolding. Jones, a defensive back from Brandon, has had an eventful offseason. After recording 12 tackles and two pass breakups as a freshman last season at Mississippi State, Jones decided to enter the transfer portal on May 19. Four days later, Jones announced in a tweet that he'd be transferring across Mississippi, professing his commitment to Ole Miss. Now, two weeks after his commitment to Ole Miss, Jones has changed course again. Jones posted a tweet early Monday morning announcing his commitment to Florida State. Once it's official, Jones will join fellow former Mississippi State Bulldog Fabien Lovett at Florida State. Lovett also elected to transfer this offseason and officially joined on with Florida State on May 30. - The Clarion Ledger

Jarrian Jones isn't going too much farther from home. The rising sophomore cornerback announced via Twitter Saturday morning he is transferring from Mississippi State to Ole Miss. He tweeted a photo of himself in an Ole Miss uniform. Jones confirmed with the Clarion Ledger his decision to continue his college football career in Oxford. Jones entered the transfer portal earlier this week. He tweeted that he had conversations with multiple schools, including Oregon. Joe Moorhead, the former Mississippi State head coach who recruited Jones, is now the offensive coordinator at Oregon.

Ultimately, though, Jones chose to stay in the Magnolia State and play for another familiar face. Cornerbacks coach Terrell Buckley moved from Mississippi State to Ole Miss when Moorhead was fired in January. Buckley heavily recruited Jones out of Northwest Rankin high school. It seemed the future of Mississippi State's secondary was set with Jones and a collection of other young defensive backs learning from Buckley. - The Clarion Ledger

Mississippi State might lose another potential starter on defense. Rising sophomore cornerback Jarrian Jones entered the NCAA transfer portal Tuesday. 247Sports first reported the news. The Clarion Ledger confirmed Jones' decision to enter the portal with Jones himself. Jones and fellow freshman Martin Emerson Jr. played plenty of meaningful snaps at corner after senior Maurice Smitherman went down with an ACL injury and junior Cameron Dantzler battled injuries of his own. Mississippi State freshmen cornerback Jarrian Jones is determined to be a regular contributor for the Bulldogs during his career in maroon and white. Jones recorded 12 total tackles, two pass breakups and a fumble recovery in 2019. He and Emerson were set to be stalwarts on the edges for Mississippi State for many years to come. Now the Bulldogs will have to rely on other key returners and incoming freshmen. - The Clarion Ledger
