West Virginia announced the signing of defensive lineman Davoan Hawkins on Tuesday. Hawkins, a 6-foot-2, 286-pound senior, joins the Mountaineers after spending the last three seasons at Tennessee State. He was at Kentucky for three seasons before that. He finished his career with Tennessee State with 92 tackles, including 18 for loss and eight sacks. He also had five forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and blocked two kicks.This past fall he had 31 tackles, with five for loss, a sack, a forc ed fumble and two fumble recoveries. The Lauderdale Hill, Florida, native played in 11 games the year before and in all seven of the team's games during the Ohio Valley Conference's 2020 season, which was postponed to spring 2021 due to the uncertainty s urrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. - Charleston Gazette-Mail

The University of Kentucky football program gained a new football commitment Friday. Shortly after, it lost two of its building blocks already on campus. Kahlil Saunders, a defensive end out of Huntsville, Ala., announced his commitment to the Wildcats a t 2:25 p.m. Friday. Sixteen minutes later, at 2:41 p.m., defensive lineman Cavon Butler shared that he is entering the NCAA transfer portal. A little more than an hour after that, redshirt sophomore defensive lineman Davoan Hawkins also entered the NCAA transfer portal. Butler, a 6-foot-3, 310-pound Toledo native, was listed as a nose guard. As a true freshman last season he made one appearance, recording a tackle in UK's 50-7 win over Tennessee Martin. Hawkins, a 6-2, 282-pounder from Hollywood, Fla., played in nine games and made three tackles and forced a fumble last season.
