Jaelen Gill, Fresno State, Player News
|
Along with the sentimental value of players' parents seeing them play for what's likely the first time in almost two years, the Spring Game also provides an opportunity for the Eagles to showcase their offseason improvements. "[Jaelen Gill] is one of the guys that have really made the biggest steps so far this spring," backup quarterback Dennis Grosel said during Thursday's press conference. "He's been really working hard. He's getting comfortable with everything. That's really what it ties in to. It's just another year in the same system." Gill, a transfer from Ohio State, broke out last season with 435 yards on 29 receptions. With star receiver Kobay White's absence due to a knee injury last season, Gill became a fundamental part of a receiving core that remains almost fully intact going into the 2021 season. - The Heights

Former Ohio State football receiver Jaelen Gill will have an immediate opportunity to show how he can help Boston College. Gill announced on Twitter Tuesday morning that he has been granted immediate eligibility after his transfer to the Eagles. Athletes in football and some other sports must sit out one season following a transfer to another Division I program unless they receive an NCAA waiver. Such waivers have been granted more frequently in the past couple of years. Ohio State's Justin Fields petit ioned for and received a waiver for immediate eligibility when transferring from Georgia in 2019. - Cleveland Plain Dealer

Another outgoing Ohio State football transfer is reuniting with a former Buckeye assistant coach at another school. Jaelen Gill announced on Twitter that he will play at Boston College. The Eagles are coached by Jeff Hafley, who left Ohio State after one season as the co-defensive coordinator. Gill must sit out one season before playing for Boston College. The Buckeyes are not scheduled to play BC in the timespan of Gill's remaining career. Gill entered the transfer portal around April 22. The Westervil le native was a top-30 national recruit in the 2018 but could not crack the Buckeyes' talented receiver rotation. Garrett Wilson's offseason shift to the slot made the fight for playing time more difficult. Gill played in nine games last season as a reds hirt freshman, totaling 51 yards and a touchdown on six receptions. - Cleveland Plain Dealer
