 Christopher Bleich, Syracuse, Player News

Syracuse football will retain one of its starting offensive linemen from this season for the 2023 season. Right guard Chris Bleich announced Monday via Twitter he'll use a sixth year of eligibility to play for the Orange again next year. It's unclear if Bleich is the upperclassman coach Dino Babers recently said would return for another season. Still, it's great news for an O-line that had the potential to lose as many as four of five starters heading into next season.

Left tackle Matthew Bergeron will be moving on to the NFL, and right tackle Dakota Davis is out of eligibility. Left guard Kalan Ellis is expected to return. Center Carlos Vettorello has not said whether he will be back after being recognized on Senior Night. Bleich started 11 of 12 games this season, missing the 45-35 loss at Wake Forest on Nov. 19. He's taken 682 total offensive snaps and helped pave the way for running back Sean Tucker to have another 1,000-yard rushing season. - The Post-Standard

The NCAA has denied a transfer waiver seeking immediate eligibility for Syracuse offensive lineman Chris Bleich. That means the former Florida lineman, a redshirt sophomore, won’t be able to play this fall unless he wins an appeal. The 6-foot-6, 330-pound native of Hanover Township, Pennsylvania enrolled for the spring semester at Syracuse and was expected to give the Orange needed depth at guard. - AP College Football

Florida guard Chris Bleich, who started eight of the team's first nine games this season, has decided to transfer. Bleich entered the NCAA transfer portal Tuesday, three days after getting benched in a 24-17 loss to Georgia. Gators offensive line coach John Hevesy confirmed the redshirt freshman's exit following practice, saying "we support Chris and everything he's doing." Bleich emerged from fall camp as Florida's youngest starting offensive lineman. The 6-foot-6, 330-pounder showed his inexperience weekly, becoming a popular subject of fan criticism. He started splitting time with Richard Gouraige, who seemingly supplanted Bleich against the Bulldogs. The 10th-ranked Gators (7-2, 4-2 Southeastern Conference) host Vanderbilt on Saturday. With Gouraige now a starter, Florida's primary backups are true freshmen Ethan White and Michael Tarquin. - AP College Football
