 Chase Wolf, Wisconsin, Player News

  02/08/23 - QB Chase WolfrSr/2024, Wisconsin, 6-1, 195 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Quarterback Chase Wolf is no longer with the University of Wisconsin football program and will not return for a sixth season, according to a UW official. Wolf told reporters after helping the Badgers win the Guaranteed Rate Bowl that he was going to return this fall and pursue his master's degree. But after the program secured commitments from three transfer quarterbacks this offseason, Wolf's chances of playing under new coach Luke Fickell and in new offensive coordinator Phil Longo's system greatly diminished. Wolf played in 13 games for UW and made his first career start against Oklahoma State in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl in December. He finishes his UW career with 292 passing yards, three touchdowns and five interceptions on 33-of-57 passing (57.9%). - Wisconsin State Journal

  12/29/22 - QB Chase WolfrSr/2024, Wisconsin, 6-1, 195 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Chase Wolf wasn't perfect in his first college start. Yet the fifth-year senior overcame a costly interception on is fifth throw of the game and directed two critical touchdown drives in the second quarter to help Wisconsin end its season with a 24-17 victory over Oklahoma State in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl on Tuesday night in Phoenix. "I thought Chase did a phenomenal job tonight," UW coach Luke Fickell said. "He controlled what he could control. He took shots when he took shots. "I don't think I ever saw him bat an eye. Even after the interception, his ability to come back. That's a credit to him."

Tuesday was his 13th game at UW. Fickell suggested afterward Wolf is leaning toward taking advantage of the COVID season of 2020 and returning to UW for a sixth season. Wolf told reporters he would be back. "We've talked about that," Fickell said. "He's got himself into graduate school, and I think he feels like he's got some unfinished business. "And it's hard to walk away from a place like this." - Journal Sentinel

  08/31/22 - QB Chase WolfrSr/2024, Wisconsin, 6-1, 195 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Wisconsin's quarterback depth has taken a hit heading into the 18th-ranked Badgers' season opener. Backup quarterback Chase Wolf has injured his right leg and is out for an indefinite length of time. That leaves starter Graham Mertz as the only available Wisconsin quarterback who has taken a snap in a college game. Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst said the injury happened last week and indicated he doesn't know how much time Wolf will miss. The Badgers open their season Saturday by hosting Football Championship Subdivision program Illinois State. "Just offering up all my prayers to him," Mertz said Monday. "He's in surgery probably here in a little bit. Obviously, you never want to see your buddy go down." Wisconsin's remaining quarterbacks behind Mertz are redshirt freshman Deacon Hill and true freshmen Myles Burkett and Marshall Howe. Burkett was on campus for spring practice. "I couldn't sit here right now and tell you who's further ahead or not," Chryst said. - AP College Football

  10/28/20 - QB Chase WolfrSr/2024, Wisconsin, 6-1, 195 (DS#999 QB) + More +

A second University of Wisconsin quarterback has tested positive for COVID-19. State Journal sources confirmed Tuesday that starter Graham Mertz and backup Chase Wolf have tested positive using a rapid antigen test. CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd reported Tuesday morning that Mertz's confirmatory PCR test came back positive. The status of Wolf's PCR test is not known. Big Ten Conference protocols state players who have a positive test confirmed must sit out of games for 21 days. That 21-day layoff for players who test positive is the longest among Power Five conferences. Mertz is believed to have tested positive on Saturday, Oct. 24, and the initial test begins the 21-day countdown. Assuming he has no cardiac complications and he's cleared by a cardiologist, he will miss games against Nebraska and Purdue, but could be active against Michigan on Nov. 14. - Wisconsin State Journal
