Isaac Hodgins, Oregon State, Player News
|
Isaac Hodgins likes physical labor. Last summer, the Oregon State defensive end went through Craigslist looking for people who needed help with yard work or farming. Same with OSU teammates Logan Horton and Jake Overman. Horton, a junior running back, us ed to deliver food for DoorDash and Instacart, but with soaring gas prices, it didn't pencil out. But prior to name, image and likeness laws going into effect last summer, college athletes had limited options to earn an income. Now, the possibiliti es are endless. Hodgins, Overman, Horton and former OSU tight end Quinn Smith were at Bible study, they started talking business. Out of it came "Dam Good Home Exterior Services," a business where the foursome use their names as catalyst to drum up home exterior service work. The business logo is a Beaver wearing a hard hat pushing a lawn mower. They do everything from mowing and trimming yards, pressure washing, gutter cleaning, weeding, spread backdust or mulch, window cleaning. Busy Beavers, eh? - Th e Oregonian

Oregon State junior defensive end Isaac Hodgins, the team's most veteran player in terms of career starts, had foot surgery Monday and will be sidelined for about two months. Hodgins hurt his foot midway through Saturday's practice. He left the workout o n crutches, and didn't attend Monday or Tuesday's practice. Coach Jonathan Smith, who didn't specify which foot, said Hodgins' injury is "longer-term, so give or take eight weeks." Hodgins, brother of Buffalo Bills receiver Isaiah Hodgins and son of form er NFL fullback James Hodgins, has started 30 of 31 games at Oregon State. Hodgins started his first game as a true freshman in 2018. He brought a streak of 28 consecutive starts into the 2021 season. The 6-foot, 274-pound Hodgins has 76 tackles, 9 1/2 t ackles for loss and five sacks during his career. Hodgins was Pac-12 all-conference honorable mention last season. - The Oregonian

Oregon State defensive end Isaac Hodgins wakes up early every morning. Not because there's a sunrise TV show worth watching or classroom work that needs extra attention. Early to rise means more time to eat for Hodgins. You think that 274-pound body happ ened overnight? "Honestly, it's a lot of dedication," Hodgins said after Thursday's practice. "You've got to wake up really early and start your day so you can get more meals in." Many people would call this living the dream. "I mean, I don't run away fr om meals," Hodgins said.Hodgins, a fourth-year junior who has started 30 of 31 games during his Oregon State career, entered college at 265 pounds. He's been on an eating spree for more than three years, and yet it's resulted in only nine pounds. First, some context. Hodgins was 265 pounds when he arrived at OSU during the summer of 2018, but admitted it was a little on the doughy side. In three years, Hodgins has gone from a high-fat 265 to a far leaner 274 pounds. It's close to where Hodgins wa nts to be, as his game is as much about speed as it is size and strength. The game plan, Hodgins says, is simple. Eat more calories than you can burn. - The Oregonian
