The Oregon Ducks defensive backfield will have a second starter back in 2023. Safety Stephens IV is returning to the Ducks for his final year of eligibility, according to a source with knowledge of the matter. Stephens had a career-high 43 tackles with t wo pass breakups in 13 games with 10 starts in 2022. He will be UO's No. 3 returning tackler behind linebacker Jeff Bassa and safety Jamal Hill. The sixth-year senior is the ninth draft-eligible player to return for a final season of eligibility at UO, j oining Bo Nix, Steven Jones, Mase Funa, Brandon Dorlus, Taki Taimani, Popo Aumavae, Casey Rogers and Hill. - Oregon Live

Nearly six months since his 2021 season ended, Steve Stephens IV is expecting to see the field again at Autzen Stadium The Oregon Ducks safety injured his right hamstring during the win over Colorado on Oct. 30 and missed the remainder of the season, fin ishing the year with 33 tackles, with two for loss, and a pass breakup. Stephens was limited to begin spring practice but has increased his level of participation and took reps with the second-team defense on Tuesday. He expects to play during Saturday's spring game (1 p.m., Pac-12 Network). "Soft tissue injury, we wanted to take our time with it," Stephens said. "For the most part I'm back, you see I'm out there flying around...You'll see me in the spring game for sure." Stephens is still getting treat ment for the leg injury and has increased his strength and mobility. The coaching staff has built up his workload from individual drills to now a steady amount of snaps with the secondary and entire defense. - The Oregonian
