Jasir Cox announced on social media he would be declaring for the NFL Draft after a year at WVU. "First, I would like to give thanks to WVU for the opportunity to continuing out my college career & my dreams. West Virginia has been home to me & I'm forev er grateful," Cox wrote. "I want to thank coach Brown, & the coaching staff for believing in me. I truly want to thank my teammates for creating a brotherhood & always having my back. I would like to give a special thanks to my former teammates from NDSU . Lastly, I want to thank my family for always being supportive & loving throughout my football career. With that being said, I am officially declaring for the 2023 NFL Draft." The 6-foot-1, 204-pound spear was fourth on the team with 62 tackles in 2022. He had six tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks. He had three pass breakups, a quarterback hurry and two fumble recoveries, including a 65-yard return for touchdown. Cox spent the four years before arriving at WVU at FCS power North Dakota State, where he was part of three national championship teams. - Charleston Gazette-Mail

The common view of the transfer portal is one of players hurling themselves headlong into the wormhole without any clear idea of what lies in wait on the other side. WVU safety Jasir Cox shatters that conception. Following a career at North Dakota State in which his team lost just three games over four years (2018-21) while winning three FCS national titles, the Kansas City, Missouri, native wanted, like many players at that level, to prove himself at the top tier of collegiate football.Instead o f simply jumping in and seeing what was out there, however, the sociology major (he already holds his undergraduate degree in that field) put together a thoughtful approach to finding a new destination. "I did a lot of research on the team and on the pos ition," said Cox, who was looking for a spot where he could showcase more safety skills than he did at NDSU, where he was an outside linebacker playing at around 200 pounds. "I entered the portal in February and had a lot of time to consider what options were best for me. Oklahoma State was a big one, and Texas reached out. It was a long decision, but West Virginia was the best fit for me." He also used the experience of older brother Jabril Cox, who also played at NDSU before transferring to LSU for hi s final year in 2020, as an information source for his decision. - Charleston Gazette-Mail

West Virginia University has confirmed that Jasir Cox, a 6-foot-1, 209-pound fifth-year senior from Kansas City, Missouri, has signed a grant-in-aid and will transfer to WVU from North Dakota State. He will be used on the defensive side of the ball. A fo ur-year veteran of the Bison program, Cox earned second-team All-Missouri Valley Conference honors in 2021 on the strength of 58 tackles, including three for losses and 1.5 sacks.He showed his ability to play in space with three pass interceptions and two pass breakups. That backed up an excellent 2020 season in which he had 10 tackles, including 2.5 for losses and a sack. He also appeared in 23 combined games in 2018 and 2019, and totaled 124 tackles, eight TFLs, 10 pass breakups and two forced fumbles during his four years and 47 games at NDSU. Cox will be immediately eligible for WVU. Cox follows the career trajectory of his brother, Jabril Cox, who also started his career at North Dakota State before transferring to LSU. Jabril is now a line backer for the NFL Dallas Cowboys. - Charleston Gazette-Mail
